INcho stands for The International Chemistry Olympiad that has been conducted by the Indian Association of Chemistry Teachers (IACT) as a competitive exam for the students of secondary and higher secondary school levels at the end of the month of January or the beginning of February. IChO boosts the level of education in the field of chemistry for all the participating countries. It helps young people from different countries to connect with each other and develop friendly relations among them. Chemistry Olympiad can be divided into 5 stages leading to the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO):
Stage 1: National Standard Examination in Chemistry (NSEC).
Stage 2: Indian National Chemistry Olympiad (INChO).
Stage 3: Orientation cum Selection Camp (OCSC) in chemistry.
Stage 4: Pre-departure Training Camp (PDT) for IChO.
Stage 5: Participation in International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO).
Previous year’s question paper is the key to scoring good marks. Students can use it is a map that will provide guidance to them on how to prepare for the exam in a proper way. Solving the previous year’s question paper not only helps the student to know the examination pattern but also reveals that area they should focus on.
The Indian national Chemistry Olympiad (INChO) is a challenging exam where students from different parts of the country participate and only a few of them get selected for the next stage.
Students are selected for all the five stages of the chemistry Olympiad based on their performance and the top students who get selected for the International Chemistry Olympiad represent India on an international level. Therefore, no student would like to go unprepared or leave a stone unturned.
Previous year’s questions give them a concrete foundation to base their preparation. It builds a confidence level students require to face other participating students. They can download the previous year’s question prepared by Vedantu for a better understanding and easy access.
The students appearing for INChO will have to write for 3 hours. There will be 80 objective questions i.e., multiple-choice questions. The students can write the paper in English or Hindi (they can select the language at the time of registration).
Students can check the information about the date and the time of the exam is on the official website of HBCSE. The exam is usually conducted at the end of the month of January or the start of February.
The confirmation about the schedule and dates are also communicated to the eligible students by post to make sure no student misses out on this crucial information.
The syllabus for INChO, just like NSEC is roughly based on the school syllabus of classes 9 and 10 of the CBSE board. The syllabus that is set for the students of higher secondary (11 and 12) schools is just a broad guideline.
However, the problems and the questions that the students appearing for the National Chemistry Olympiad faces, are of more non-conventional and of high difficulty level, in comparison to International Chemistry Olympiad.
The top 35 students who make their way to the merit list are selected based on their performance in INChO. These 35 students then become eligible for the third stage i.e., the Orientation Cum Selection Camp in chemistry (OCSC). In situations when there is a tie, all the students having the same marks at this last position will be qualified for OCSC.
