Class 5 IEO English Olympiad Syllabus and Pattern of Question Paper Format

The Class 5 IEO Olympiad is made so that it covers the school’s syllabus and prepares the student for both the annual and Olympiad examinations. The detailed structure of the question paper, along with the sections, are listed in the following.

 

Section – 1: Word and Structure Knowledge

The course of this section includes all basic grammar topics like spellings, synonyms and antonyms, adjectives, active-passive voice, Verbs and Phrasal Verbs, Conjunctions, Homonyms and homophones, and so on.

 

Section – 2: Reading

This section includes texts where you have to retrieve information from various headlines and messages and understand the same. This section also includes an understanding of and specific information in formats of small texts like card dialogues.

 

Section – 3: Spoken and Written Expression

This section checks the ability of the student to understand and formulate variations in situations like Refusals, Apologies, etc.

 

Section – 4: Achievers Section

This section has HOTS (high order thinking skills) questions, and the syllabus of this is the same as of sections 1, 2, and 3.

Following are some tips which are shared for the Class 5 students to perform well in their IEO exam:

  1. With the preparation all done, once brush up what you have studied, meaning revise well before the exam. 

  2. Take any Previous Year's Question Papers and start practising them. 

  3. If you are lacking in any sections, then give time to that section and try understanding that part with calmness. If you still do not understand or learn the same then skip that, do not focus on what you do not know before the exam.

  4. Stay calm and composed before the exam.

1. What is the criteria for ranking in the IEO Examinations?

Ans: The main criteria for ranking in the IEO exam are the scores that are obtained. 

However, if there is a tie, ranks are decided based on: 

  1. Marks secured in the Word and Structure Knowledge, Reading, Spoken and Written Expression, and Achievers Section. 
  2. Past performance of the school as given in the OMR. However, if the student does not have the same, he or she will not be considered for ranking purposes.
  3. Age (preference given to younger ones)
  4. Interview 

2. How much do I need to score to make it to IEO Level 2?

Ans: In the International English Olympiad (IEO), there will be two levels: level 1 and level 2.

Students who make it to the Level 2 are as follows-

  1. All students coming in the top 5 percent category, class wise 
  2. 25 rank holders from the state 
  3. From each school that conducts these exams, the class topper. Given that there is a minimum of 10 students who appear for the same and score at least 50 percent of the qualifying marks.

3. I want to appear for the IEO Examinations. How can I know the details of the exam?

Ans: The details and information for the IEO Examination are always provided to all the schools that are registered with the SOF. Furthermore, these schools are also given the forms for registration and the prospectus. After the first round, the details of the venue and date is also sent to the schools. Students interested in appearing for the exam can talk to their school officials or check the SOF Official website or verify it from their Facebook page  www.facebook.com/sofworld.

4. I am interested in taking part in the IEO Examinations. But, my school is not registered for the same. What can I do?

Ans: In case you want to register for the IEO Examinations, you must provide the details- your Name, email ID, the address of the school, and also provide the details for contacting the principal. All the relevant information along with the forms will be provided to the schools for your registration. The principal or the teacher who is in charge of the registration can be contacted for further details. However, if your school fails to register for the exams, you can opt for direct registration on the official website of SOF.

5. What are the chapters covered in IEO Class 5 examinations? 

Ans: There are many chapters covered in IEO examinations that aim at testing the ability of students to comprehend literature as well as their grammatical skills. These chapters include idioms, homophones, homonyms, synonyms, antonyms, nouns and pronouns, verbs and phrases, adverbs, articles, prepositions, conjunction, tenses, and active and passive speech. It is important for students to study English thoroughly, and for that, a proper timetable with time management is essential. Students must also keep in mind to complete the course and revise properly.
