Special Eligibility Cases for CMI Entrance Exam 2026

Candidates applying for the PhD programme in Mathematics at CMI may be considered directly for an interview, without taking the CMI entrance exam, if they have been awarded the NBHM PhD Fellowship.


PhD in Computer Science via GATE or JEST:

Candidates applying for the PhD programme in Computer Science at CMI can qualify for the interview based on their performance in either the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) in Computer Science and IT or the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) in Theoretical Computer Science, without appearing for the CMI entrance examination.


PhD Admission in Physics 

Candidates applying for the PhD programme in Physics at CMI can also qualify for the interview without taking the CMI entrance exam if they have a valid score in one of the following national-level exams: the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) in Physics, UGC-CSIR NET, or GATE in Physics.
