Special Eligibility Cases for CMI Entrance Exam 2026

Students who have demonstrated outstanding performance in the National Olympiads in Mathematics, Physics, or Informatics are exempted from taking the CMI Bachelor’s entrance examination.

How to Apply for the CMI Entrance Exam 2026?

• Entrance Exam Requirement: All applicants must take the CMI Entrance Exam 2026 to be admitted to any programme.

• Ph.D. Programmes: Selection involves an interview for shortlisted candidates.

• Other Programmes: Interviews may be conducted at the discretion of the Admissions Committee, depending on the candidate’s academic record and merit.

To complete registration for the CMI Entrance Exam 2026, candidates must pay the application fee. The fee is generally the same across categories, though it may vary depending on the number of programmes applied for.

Direct Admission to CMI BS Programmes

Certain students are eligible for direct admission to the CMI B.S. entrance examination without appearing for the standard test:

• Students who have qualified for the International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC) or the European Girls Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (EGMOTC) in Class 11 or Class 12.

• Students who have qualified for the Orientation Cum Selection Camp (OCSC) in Physics in Class 11 or Class 12.

• Students who have qualified for the International Olympiad in Informatics Training Camp (IOITC) have been shortlisted for team selection in the European Girls Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI) or have won a gold or silver medal at the Indian National Olympiad in Informatics (INOI) in Class 11 or Class 12.

PhD Admission Eligibility

PhD in Mathematics via NBHM:

Candidates applying for the PhD programme in Mathematics at CMI may be considered directly for an interview, without taking the CMI entrance exam, if they have been awarded the NBHM PhD Fellowship.

PhD in Computer Science via GATE or JEST:

Candidates applying for the PhD programme in Computer Science at CMI can qualify for the interview based on their performance in either the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) in Computer Science and IT or the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) in Theoretical Computer Science, without appearing for the CMI entrance examination.

PhD Admission in Physics 

Candidates applying for the PhD programme in Physics at CMI can also qualify for the interview without taking the CMI entrance exam if they have a valid score in one of the following national-level exams: the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) in Physics, UGC-CSIR NET, or GATE in Physics. Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview at the discretion of the Admissions Committee, provided they have a valid score from the respective examination at the time of the interview.
