After a lot of speculation and rescheduling, NEET 2020 is all set to be conducted on 13 September 2020. It takes a year-long hard work to get through the NEET examination at one go and meet the cut-off criteria for esteemed medical colleges. So you need to have a clear vision and a blueprint of the do’s and don’ts to succeed in the NEET examination. Knowing the exam pattern, focussing on the topics having greater weightage, are a few of the imperative parts of NEET preparation. Here are the do’s and don’ts for NEET aspirants to fine-tune their performances.

1. Manage Your Time Wisely

When it comes to NEET preparation, time management is of utmost importance, as it helps you to cover the entire syllabus effectively. The first thing that you need to do to manage your time wisely is to chalk out a daily routine based on your school timings, tuitions, and availability. One tip for preparing the routine is to be realistic, that is, set goals that you will be able to achieve on a daily basis. Do not plan to cover three chapters in a day, in which you have only two hours for self-study.

It is wiser to devote more time to the topics that you find difficult and maintain a proper mix of all three subjects, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in your daily routine. To strike the right balance, it is important for you to study topics from all three subjects every week. Thereby you can cover the syllabi for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology consistently. Also, keep a particular time-slot in your daily routine for practicing multiple-choice questions, to train yourself better for the examination.

2. Focus More on Topics With Greater Weightage

For securing a good score in the NEET examination, it is imperative to focus well on the topics with greater weightage. Make a list of the topics having the maximum weightage on a sheet of paper and make it a point to cover them at the earliest. Keep revising these topics and solving as many questions as possible from these topics every week. If you find difficulty in any of these topics, it will be beneficial to address the doubts at the earliest. A good knowledge base of these important topics will help you secure high scores in the NEET examination.

3. Do Your SWOT Analysis

Analyzing your strength, weakness, opportunities, and threats, abbreviated as SWOT analysis is a key to good preparation for the NEET examination. It is very important to make a SWOT analysis for your NEET preparation right at the beginning of the year. Note down the topics that you have a strong base in and also those topics which you find difficult to understand in a sheet of paper. Note down the opportunities that will help you to prepare for the examination and also, the threats that may hinder your performance. This will help you have a clear vision of what you have and where you stand in the way to success in the NEET examination.

One tip, in this case, is that stress is the biggest threat to your performance in NEET and you must come up with ways to utilize your opportunities to overcome your weaknesses.

4. Practice Has No Alternative

There is no alternative to good practice when it comes to succeeding in the NEET examination. Practice the NCERT questions for all the three subjects, solve previous years’ question papers, and as many test papers as possible. Keep a time-slot for practicing multiple-choice questions and the labelings of the diagrams every week. The more you practice, the more confident you will become for the NEET examination.

5. Test Your Preparation

Take mock tests and the short quiz sessions available on online study portals like Vedantu, for assessing your NEET preparation. The sole purpose of taking mock tests online is to become familiar with the examination interface for NEET. When you take mock tests you will be able to know the time-management required to record maximum attempts in the examination. Thereby you will be able to come up with effective strategies to perform your best in the NEET examination. Also, it will become easier for you to identify the glitches and problem areas in your preparation, by taking online mock tests.

6. Don’t Compromise on Accuracy

Your exam strategy must help you gain maximum accuracy, that is, most of your recorded responses got to be correct. When taking a mock test or solving a question paper, if you find that your scores are not as good as you expected, you need to analyze your performance. Compare all the answers with your notes or from the books, and find out where you went wrong. In general, aspirants get confused due to the similar answer choices given for some questions, but your accuracy cannot be compromised with. Even if you answer fewer questions, make sure to target a 100% accuracy.

7. Don’t Skip Any Topic From the NEET Syllabus

It may sound way too good to achieve, but for securing a good score in NEET, you will have to cover all the topics in the NEET syllabus. It is quite natural to have doubts but you should not skip any topic for having lots of doubts. For those topics which seem to be difficult for you to understand, break it down into smaller parts and devote more time to cover such topics. Consult with your teachers and peers to get your doubts clarified and make sure you end up with a good understanding of every topic in the NEET syllabus.

8. Don’t Over-Stress on The Aftermath of Your Exam

As it is said, stress can become the biggest threat to your performance in an examination. If you look closely, all the stress is pivoted about the aftermath of the NEET examination. It is wise to have a plan of which colleges and states you can afford to move into, but overthinking your chances of getting through will only take a toll on your confidence.

All your efforts can go in vain if you stress on the examination day. It is advisable to practice meditation regularly to release stress and anxiety. Going for early morning walks, working out, and practicing yoga can be helpful stress busters as well. Yet again, do not give in to junk foods and other harmful habits to release stress.

All these above-discussed points will help you strike the right balance in your preparation for the NEET examination. To top it all, you need to take good care of your health to fetch good score in the examination. Try to get 6-7 hours of sleep and do not overwork yourself, as it will only add to the stress levels. Maintain an easy to digest eating habit as much as possible, as a healthy body spikes up your productivity. One week before the NEET examination, have all things handy to be taken along to the examination center and visit the exam venue a couple of days before the exam date, so as to avoid any last-minute hustle.
