What is Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC)?

The Armed Forces Medical College in Pune is a prestigious medical school in India. AFMC holds the distinction of being Asia's first medical college established by the Armed Forces. The college is a one-of-a-kind institution that combines medical education with training specific to the needs of the Armed Forces.

 

The Armed Forces Medical College was founded on May 1, 1948. Medical undergraduates and postgraduates, nursing undergraduates and postgraduates, dental postgraduates, and paramedical staff are all trained at this institution. Patient care is an essential component of the training curriculum, and affiliated hospitals make use of the expertise available at AFMC. The institution is in charge of providing the Armed Forces with an entire pool of specialists and super-specialists through in-service training. Admission in AFMC

To get admission to Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), the students will have to crack the NEET exam. It’s mandatory to clear NEET to get admission to AFMC. And after cracking the NEET exam, the students will have to apply for AFMC, Pune on the DGHS website: www.mcc.nic.in during the registration window provided by the DGHS. The admission is done on the basis of merit.

 

A Few Words about NEET

The National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET), originally the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT), is the entrance exam for Indian medical and dental institutes' MBBS and BDS programmes. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts NEET every year.

 

NEET Exam Pattern

NEET is conducted every year in an offline mode. It consists of 180 questions, 45 questions each from Chemistry, Physics, Zoology, and Botany. The exam is of 720 marks. 4 marks are awarded for each correct answer and a negative mark for each wrong answer. Students get 180 minutes to complete the exam. 

 

NEET Syllabus

NEET exam consists of questions from the core topics of Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology included in the NCERTs textbook of Classes 11 and 12.

 

AFMC Screening and Counselling Procedure

After the NEET results, DGHS will provide a list of candidates who have applied for AFMC, Pune. NEET will display roll No. of candidates on the website who are meritoriously selected for screening at AFMC, Pune. The screening will involve approximately 1600 candidates (1150 boys and 450 girls). The exact schedule of the screening at AFMC, Pune, as well as the names of those who have been shortlisted, will be available on the official website: www.afmcdg1d.gov.in or www.mcc.nic.in.

 

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to AFMC, Pune, for a Test of English Language, Comprehension, Logic, and Reasoning (ToELR), Psychological Assessment Test (PAT), Interview, and Medical Examination. The Test of English Language Comprehension, Logic, and Reasoning (ToELR) will be a Computer Based Test (CBT) consisting of 40 MCQs of 2.0 marks each, for a total of 80 marks, and will be held at AFMC, Pune. For each incorrect answer, 0.5 marks will be deducted. These 40 questions must be answered within 30 minutes. The ToELR marks will be added to the NEET UG-2023 score (maximum of 720) to obtain an overall score of 800. This will be divided by four to get the written exam score out of 200. The interview will be worth 50 marks.

 

On the basis of the NEET-UG – 2023 score and screening at AFMC, two merit lists, one for boys and one for girls, will be created, and admissions will be granted only to those candidates who have been shortlisted in accordance with their final merit position. The remaining applicants will be placed on a waiting list. The results will be available on the aforementioned websites as well as at the O/o DGAFMS and Admission Cell, AFMC Pune.

Identification and Verification of Documents for AFMC, Pune Admissions

Candidates shortlisted for the screening process will have to confirm their availability for the screening process at AFMC, Pune till the prescribed date by the exam conducting body, by sending an email with the subject – ‘Willingness to attend AFMC MBBS Screening 2023.’ Also, candidates need to provide their NEET - UG roll number and NEET score to this email Id – oicadmission@gmail.com.

 

In this step, candidates are required to carry the following documents to the AFMC MBBS counselling for verification:

  • Marksheet and pass certificate of Class 10th and 12th

  • Aadhaar card 

  • A certificate from the school principal whether the candidate has appeared and passed/appeared and awaiting the result of Class 12th as a regular candidate

  • Category certificate (with stamp and seal of authority)

  • Service certificate from personnel children signed by CO Unit/Higher formation whereas for a retired person: Ex-servicemen, Identity Card/Discharge Book, and PPO

  • Sports and NCC certificate (If any)

  • Extracurricular activities certificates (if any)

  • Character Certificate signed by School/College Principal

  • 16 passport and stamp size coloured photograph

  • Printout of the registration page 

  • NEET Admit card and NEET scorecard

In case, candidates are not able to provide the above-mentioned documents will not be shortlisted. 

 

Screening Tests at AFMC, Pune

Psychological Assessment Test (PAT) 

After the screening test, AFMC conducts a psychological assessment test to understand the candidate’s personality and value system. The motive behind this test is to assess the potential of a candidate in terms of qualities or personality traits.

 

Interview

After PAT, candidates will have to go for an interview round. In this step, the Dean and other officers and accomplished personnel will take the interview for a total of 50 marks. Candidates will be asked questions about themselves, their hobbies, their involvement in extracurricular activities, and other relevant information. Apart from that, candidates will also be asked some common questions like, why they want to be in AFMC etc. 

 

Medical Examination

After the interview in AFMC MBBS 2023 counselling, all the shortlisted candidates will further have to go for the medical examination held at AFMC, Pune. The medical examination will be done on the basis of the standard rules laid down by the Armed Forces.

 

According to the previous year's details, candidates reporting in the morning session will undergo documents verification, blood/urine investigation, ToELR and PAT in the afternoon and they will have to appear in the interview on the same day whereas the medical examination will be conducted next day in the morning at the prescribed time by the exam conducting body.
