Shivraj Singh Chouhan was born in the Jait village of Sehore district on March 5, 1959, to Prem Singh Chouhan (Father) and Sundar Bai Chouhan (Mother). His father was a farmer and his mother was a housewife. Chouhan completed his schooling at Model Higher Senior Secondary School in Bhopal. He served as the President of the Student’s Union of the School. He did his post-graduation from Barkatullah University in Philosophy and is a Gold Medalist.
He is the present chief minister of Madhya Pradesh and is from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Shivraj Singh Chouhan has had an illustrious political career spanning over more than 30 years. Let's take a detailed look at his political career.
1990- Shivraj Singh Chouhan started his political career from Budhni Constituency in 1990 where he was elected to the state assembly. He was also elected as an MP from the Visdisha constituency for the first time in the 10th Lok Sabha in the same year.
1996- Shivraj Singh Chouhan was re-elected to the 11th Lok Sabha.
1996-1997- During this period, he was the Member of the Committee on Urban and Rural Development and was also a Member of the Consultative Committee, Ministry of HRD.
1997-1998- He was appointed as the General Secretary of BJP (Madhya Pradesh). In 1998, Shivraj was re-elected to the 12th Lok Sabha.
1998-1999- Shivraj Singh Chouhan served as the Member of the Committee on Urban and Rural Development and the Ministry of Rural Areas and Employment. In 1999, he was elected to the 13th Lok Sabha for the fourth time.
1999-2000- During this period Chouhan was a Member of the Committee on Agriculture and from
1999-2001- He served as the Member of the Committee on Public Undertakings.
2000-2003- Shivraj Singh Chouhan served as the National President of Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha.
2000-2004- Chouhan became a Member of the Consultative Committee, Ministry of Communications. In 2004 Shivraj Singh Chouhan was re-elected to the 14th Lok Sabha for the fifth time.
2005- On November 29, 2005, Shivraj Singh Chouhan was elected the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh for the first time. During this period he was also the BJP Party President for Madhya Pradesh. In the same year, Chouhan contested a by-election from the Budhni assembly and regained his old seat by a margin of 36,000 votes.
2008- Shivraj Singh contested the elections from the Budhni constituency again and this time he won with a margin of 41,000 votes. On December 12, 2008, Shivraj Singh Chouhan was re-elected as the CM of Madhya Pradesh for his second term.
2013- Chouhan contested the Legislative Assembly elections from both the Budhni and Vidisha constituency and won with a margin of 128,730 and 73,783 votes respectively. On December 14, 2013, Chouhan was sworn in as the Chief Minister of MP for the third time.
2018- On December 12, 2018, Shivraj Singh Chouhan resigned as the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh since he failed to acquire a majority in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly election.
2020- Sworn in as the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh for the fourth time on 23rd March 2020.

1. What is the President’s Rule?
An Emergency declared in a state due to the failure of the constitutional machinery (Article 356) is popularly known as the President’s Rule. It is commonly known as State Emergency or Constitutional Emergency but the Constitution does not use the word emergency for such a situation. The emergency provisions have been included in part XVIII of the constitution, from articles 352 to 360 and the President’s Rule is mentioned in article 356 of the Indian constitution.
During the President's rule, the state executive is dismissed and the state legislature is either dissolved or suspended. The president becomes the administrative head of the state and manages the affairs through the governor while the Parliament makes laws for the state. The Center assumes the executive and legislative powers of the state during the President’s Rule.
2. How many office-bearers have served as the CM of Madhya Pradesh to date?
Since Madhya Pradesh's reorganization on 1 November 1956, 18 office-bearers have served as its chief minister. Twelve of them were from the Indian National Congress including the inaugural chief minister Ravishankar Shukla. The first non-Congress chief minister of Madhya Pradesh was Govind Narayan Singh who defected from the party. He subsequently led the Samyukta Vidhayak Dal government from 1967 to 1969.
