What is the KVPY Exam All About?

KVPY stands for Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana, a national fellowship program in Basic Sciences. The fellowship program, funded by the Indian government's Department of Science and Technology (DST), began in 1999. 


Its goal is to encourage students to pursue their careers in scientific research. All eligible students are offered scholarships and contingency grants until they reach the pre-PhD level as part of the program. The exam will include multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and will be for three hours.

SA

  • Candidates who have cleared the X Standard Board Examination and will be enrolled in XI Standard (Science subjects) during the following academic year are eligible to take the test.

  • The fellowship of such aspirants will only be activated if they enrol in a Basic Sciences undergraduate course (B.Sc./BS/B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. MS) in the following academic year.

  • They must achieve a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) on an average, including both MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in the XII standard Board Examination.

SX

  • Students who have been admitted in XII Standard (Science subjects) during the following academic year and planning to enrol in Basic Sciences undergraduate programs (B.Sc./BS/B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. MS) the following academic year.

  • The fellowship for these will only be activated if they enrol in a Basic Sciences undergraduate course (B.Sc./BS/B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. MS) during the academic year.

  • After achieving a minimum of 60% (50% for reserved categories) in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics in the XII standard Board Examination.

  • Students in their second year at Cambridge International Examination Board who wish to enrol in undergraduate Basic Sciences programs (B.Sc./BS/B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. MS) the following academic year.

  • Students selected in this stream will only be eligible for a fellowship if they enrol in a Basic Sciences undergraduate course (B.Sc./BS/B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. MS) in the academic year 2022-23.

  • After achieving a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the Cambridge International Examination Board Examination during the second year of study.

SB

  • Students who have passed the XII Standard Board Examination and are eligible to enrol in the 1st year B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.Sc./Int

  • Furthermore, students selected in this stream will only be eligible for a fellowship if they enrol in a Basic Sciences undergraduate program (B.Sc./BS/B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. MS) in the following academic year.

  • Secure a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in 1st year of B.Sc./B.S./B.Math./B.Stat./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S.
