What are the Steps Involved in Getting an Admission Through JEE Mains Exams? 

Step 1 - The Qualifying Exam 

Students must compulsorily have appeared and passed 12th standard (or equivalent) in 2018 or 2019. Students appearing for the 12th standard board exam in the year 2020 are also eligible to take up the entrance exam.  

Step 2 - Qualifying Marks – 12th Standard 

There is no particular pass percentage set specifically by the authorities to appear for JEE Main 2020. But is necessary for the candidates to have passed their 12th standard examination.  

Step 3 - Knowing the Qualifying Examination Subjects and Syllabus

The paper basically has four sections, namely - Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational Subject/Language and other subjects. It is important that students know the syllabus and prepare accordingly. Students should practise using repeated mock papers, previous year question papers and other study materials to ace the exam.    

Step 4 - Marks Required for Admission into IITs, NITs, IIITs and CFTIs 

You must have scored a minimum of 75% marks or should be in the top 20 percentile of your respective board. Candidates belonging to SC/ST category require 65% marks. 

Step 5 - JEE Main Paper II Criteria

For admission to architecture course, one must have passed 10+2 (or equivalent) examination with at least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and an aggregate of 50% marks in the qualifying examination. Diploma holders are not eligible for the entrance exam. 

Step 6 - JEE Main 2020 Seat Allocation/ Allotment Process
The seat allotment through JEE Main for the year 2020 is completely based on merit and the options chosen by the candidates through JoSAA and CSAB. when an allocated seat is rejected by the candidate, he or she will not be permitted to participate in any further rounds of the counselling. Once the JoSAA seat allotment has been done, the counselling process will be done through CSAB. 

The following are the steps to be followed by selected candidates in order to take part in the selection process and counselling of JEE Main 2020. 

  • Online Application - to fill in the online application, visit the official website of JoSAA or CSAB. Click on the Registration link and fill in all the necessary details. Provide all the required details and information with the utmost care before finally submitting the same. Also, do not forget to make the necessary payment for the counselling process. The counselling fee required can be paid through various methods like challan, debit card or credit card.

  • Choice Filling - for this step, thorough research needs to be done beforehand. Based on your preference, fill in your choices of college. After logging into your account, mark the options for colleges and courses as per your preference. A thorough research will help you to judge the merit of each college before choosing the same. Once submitted, the choices cannot be changed or altered by any means. 

  • Seat Allotment, Document Verification and Reporting - the complete JEE Main Seat Allotment is done purely based on the merit list, preference chosen by the candidates and the reservation norms of the particular institutes. The counselling is done through multiple rounds based on the number of seats available after each round. Also, candidates are expected to report to the allotted centre for document verification by the appointed officials and reserve a seat based on the ranking. After the same, pay the necessary fee for the seat allotment process in the given time frame. Any requests for getting admission or late payment of fee will not be entertained at any cost. As a final step, a provisional admission letter will be issued.

Step 7 - Documents Necessary for the Admission Process 

There are certain documents important and necessary to be verified for students trying t0 gain admission through the JEE Mains. The important documents are as follows:

  • Qualifying exam certificate

  • Class 10 Marksheet

  • Age certificate or identity proof

  • Category certificate ( If required)

  • Disability certificate ( If required)
