The All India Engineering entrance examination and the Joint entrance examination (AIEEE and JEE respectively) are the most highly competitive and the most prestigious engineering entrance examinations held in India. There is a lot of competition in this examination as there are only limited seats for a vastly high number of candidates.

This competition comprises three subjects that are Physics, chemistry as well as mathematics. The students have to answer the maximum number of questions to get a chance to study in the most prestigious IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) as well as other great institutes for studying technology. These examinations also have negative marking which means that there is a high chance even though you solve all the questions, you might not get selected in the IIT.

There is a proper way of studying and preparing for such highly competitive examinations. The most highly prescribed timetable for cracking the IIT entrance examination is to maintain a proper timetable. The timetable should contain your study time, sleep time, exercise time, and class time.

Many questions arise in the minds of an IIT aspirant. One amongst these is the question of how many hours should an IIT aspirant sleep?

This is a crucial question as many times during a competition, people don’t consider sleep a priority. Sometimes they feel sleep time actually to be an utter waste of time. Many people think that the number of hours you sleep the number of questions you miss out on an examination. They also feel that each time you take a little break, your body would require more rest thereafter.

First of all, let us tell you that this article will break all these myths and will show you after how many intervals should an IIT aspirant take a little break from studies:

How Many Hours Should an IIT Aspirant Sleep?

While preparing for the IIT, three things are very important. These are diet, sleep, and exercise. A person should always take care of his or her diet, whether they are preparing for IIT or not. Everyone should exercise in the morning or the evening, whenever they get time.

Apart from this, sleep is also an essential part of the schedule of an IIT aspirant. An IIT aspirant should sleep for approximately 6-7 hours. If a student sleeps more than that, he or she would have to cut down on their leisure activities.

The Importance of Sleep:

Many times sleep is considered an utter waste of time. In our culture and poetry, taking rest is considered a sign of procrastination. Sleeping is viewed as a trait of laziness and drowsiness. While people who sleep a lot or procrastinate a lot could be considered lazy or ill, it is not entirely true that sleeping is the sign of a lazy person or a procrastinator.

The human body requires sleep after a hard day of work. The human body is programmed in such a way that humans can’t stay awake for more than 18 hours. If they stay awake for more than 2 days or we can say that if they stay awake for more than 48 hours, the person is either having issues with mental health or has insomnia or can even show signs of some stress and tension.

Either way, a person should not stay awake for more than 18 hours. The sleep of at least 6 to 8 hours is a must for any individual or human being. Without adequate sleep, the person may not only feel drowsiness; he or she may also not be able to concentrate in the class. The person loses interest in anything when he or she does not sleep properly. The entire concentration of the person is reduced.

It is said that the average attention span of an individual is merely 15 minutes. If a person does not sleep well, his or her attention span will reduce up to 5 minutes. Thus, to gain more knowledge and to understand more concepts easily without a lot of hard work, a person should have a good night’s sleep.

Not just the attention span in classes, even the decision-making process as well as the concept grasping power of a person gets affected if s/he does not complete enough hours of sleep. If we think about it, sleep is very important for a good student.

Thus, sleep is essential for the overall health of an individual. Some of the reasons to have a good night’s sleep are as follows:

  1. Better productivity: When a person sleeps better, he or she starts doing their work even better. When a person stays up for a longer time and loses out one sleep, then their interest in their work begins to fade.

  2. Better concentration: When a person sleeps better, he or she starts concentrating on their work better. When a person gets insufficient hours of sleep, he or she is unable to pay proper attention to their work and studies.

  3. Better cognate: When a person sleeps better, the person has a better level of cognition. He or she gets better at their work if their sleep schedule is proper and fixed.

  4. Lower weight gain risk: When a person sleeps better, their metabolism also works better. With better sleep, he or she has better health and physique.

  5. Better calorie regulation: When a person sleeps better, their metabolism is regulated. Along with exercise, a proper sleep schedule helps in proper calorie regulation and helps the students in keeping proper health.

  6. Better performance intensity: When a person sleeps better, he or she gets a better ability to solve problems, especially mathematics and physics. The student also gains a better learning power after sleeping properly as concentration is increased.

  7. Better mental functioning: When a person sleeps better, he or she has good thoughts and is able to think better. The person gets better at multitasking as well as brainstorming after proper rest.

  8. Better heart health: When a person sleeps better, their heart rate remains good, and they have a better heart condition.

  9. Better social intelligence: When a person sleeps better, he or she can communicate better. Thus, such students can get their doubts solved easily as they will have god social intelligence and will be better at explaining their doubts.

  10. Better emotional intelligence: When a person sleeps better, a person has good thoughts in his or her mind. This reduces the chances of any stress or tension.

  11. Lower risk of inflammation and other pains: When a person sleeps better, he or she has a lower chance of having aches and inflammation.

  12. Stronger immune system: When a person sleeps better, they have great immunity, and they don’t fall sick very often.

Conclusion:

Thus, it is very important to complete daily sleep hours. If a person is unable to sleep, then he or she may need some medical help. In this article, we have gathered information on how many hours should an IIT aspirant sleep. We wish you the best of luck with your exams!
