The King Has a Secret

Everyone in the kingdom wondered why the king would always cover his ears. He was so narcissistic and liked to boast about his looks. People couldn’t understand why the king would hide an important part of his body. However, the king actually had a secret. The exceptionally handsome king actually had a pair of very ugly ears. His ears were just like the ones a donkey might have. The king was very ashamed of his ears and that is why he hid them. No one in the kingdom knew about his ears except the barber. The king had threatened the barber that if anyone knew his secret, he would chop the barber’s head off.

The Barber Faces a Major Issue

The barber who cut the king’s hair was called Baiju and he used to live with his wife Gori. Ever since the king threatened him, he was always scared for his life. He was worried about accidentally revealing the king’s secret. So, he started distancing himself from everyone he knew, even his wife. Now Gori, his wife, knew that her husband was worried so she asked him about it one day. The barber just sat quietly near a tamarind tree. However, when Gori kept on asking, he finally shared the secret. Unbeknownst to him, the tamarind tree had heard everything.

Pretty soon, a very important festival came and drummers from the kingdom cut down the tamarind tree to make some drums and sticks. On the day of the festival, when the drummers started beating the drums, only one noise came out and it was, “The king has the ears of a donkey.”

The Punishment for the Barber
