Introduction to the Story of Vyomasura

Kansa was fixated on defying the prophecy of him being defeated by Krishna. He sent a demon named Vyomasura to Vrindavan to defeat Krishna. Vyomasura was the son of a demon chief named Maya. Vyomasura acquired evil powers with the help of which he could deceive people by changing forms. When arrived at Vrindavan, he planned to impersonate a cowherd and abduct Krishna’s friends to draw his attention.

How Did Krishna Defeat Vyomasura?

Krishna and his friends were playing hide and seek when Vyomasura decided to mingle amongst them disguised as a fellow cowherd. While his friends were hiding, Vyomasura kidnapped them one by one and hid them in a cave. He thought to himself “Now Krishna will come looking for his friends and then I must surprise him and defeat him.”

As soon as Krishna noticed his friends were nowhere to be seen, he went looking for them. Near the cave, he finds an unfamiliar face and is instantly suspicious. Confronting his suspect, Vyomasura exposes his true self to Krishna.

Krishna lifts Vyomasura, grabs his legs, and throws him on the ground, thus defeating him. All his friends cried with joy witnessing yet another victory of Krishna.

Vyomasura and Radha

There is another supposed incident between Radha and Vyomasura.

Vyomasura embodies a man of huge size and screams food! When Radha offers him some items to eat he quickly gulps them. “Krishna didn’t tell me Vyomasura is such a huge man! how will this much food suffice him?” she thinks to herself. After finishing, he again screams food! Radha asks him to wait as she prepares more food. But her urges to have human food. Radha is scared as she believes he might want to eat her now and begins to run and Vyomasura follows her. She runs to a cave and comes to the end of it. She remembers Brij bhanu telling her to pray to devi Mahalakshmi whenever she is in danger. Radha closes her eyes and sings the Lakshmi prayer. VYomasura finds Radha and comes running toward her screaming for food! As he comes near, devi Lakshmi comes out of her in her angry form. Vyomasura tries to attack her but she dodges him and finally using her Trishul defeats him. Being hit by her, Vyomasura’s natural form is exposed and he thanks her for giving him salvation.

Note to Parents

Reading is a skill we continue to develop throughout our lives, but starting this process as early as possible has significant benefits for our continued success as readers. This is why, as parents and carers, play a vital role in supporting your child in becoming a fluent reader who is confidently able to apply their reading skills across all areas of their lives. To make it a habit, children can read short stories about Indian mythology that are interesting and enriched with values simultaneously.

Conclusion

Being an incarnation of lord Vishnu, Krishna possessed godly strength and power. Every attempt made by Kansa to defeat him failed miserably. Every demon sent by Kansa was brutally defeated by Krishna. In the given story, we read that even being the son of the demon chief, Vyomasura stood no chance against mighty Krishna. He too faced the same fate and met death.
