Dis - It is a Latin origin word meaning- apart, reversal or separation.

Examples of Root Words With Dis -

1. Disequilibrium: In biology, disequilibrium means the occurrence in a population of two linked alleles at a frequency higher than expected. To put it simply, it indicates the non-random association of two alleles at two or more loci.

2. Dislocation: Dislocation in biology or medicine is referred to as the displacement of a part. When a bone or several bones slip out from the joints, it results in dislocation.

3. Dissect: Dissect has a Latin origin, where ‘di’ means apart + ‘sect’ translates to ‘to cut’. This term is commonly used in anatomy to describe the process of dismembering the deceased plant or animal body so that it’s anatomical form and structure can be studied. 

4. Disease: When the normal bodily functions are interrupted due to any sort of divergence resulting from dysfunctioning of body part, organ or system that is manifested by a characteristic set of symptoms is a disease. The prognosis of the disease may be known or unknown.

5. Disinfection: The process of cleaning a surface with anti-microbial substances and chemicals is called disinfection.

6. Disfigurement: Disfigurement describes a state of complete ruin of an individual’s appearance. Disfigurement may occur from an injury, by birth or due to a disease.

7. Disorder: It means a derangement of function; a morbid physical or mental state of an individual.

8. Dissociative Disorder: Many mental disorders collectively are called a dissociative disorder. It is characterized by a lack of continuity between thought, actions, memories, identity and surroundings.

9. Disintegrant: Disintegrant is an agent used in pharmaceutical preparations of tablets that causes them to disintegrate and release their medicinal constituents when they come in contact with moisture.

10. Dismemberment: It means amputation of a limb or a part of it.

11. Disability: It refers to the inability to function normally- physically or mentally.

12. Discogenic: Caused by derangement of an intervertebral disc. 

13. Disjunction: In genetics, it means moving apart of bivalent chromosomes during anaphase of meiosis or mitosis.

14. Diskectomy: It means excision of an intervertebral disc.

15. Disomy: Disomy refers to the presence of two chromosomes of a homologous pair in a cell. Humans have one chromosome from each parent in a homologous pair. Only under abnormal conditions, both the chromosomes of the homologous pair come from the single parent.

16. Dispersive: Something that tends to disperse or scatter is called dispersive.

17. Disruption: It is a morphological defect arising from the extensive breakdown of or interference with a developmental process.
