Multiplication Table of 40 in Maths - Multiplication Table of Forty - Free PDF Download

Do you know the table of 4? Then surely, you must know the table of 40. Wait! What are you saying? You don’t know. Ok, my dear child. No problem. We are here to help you to learn the table of 40 with some very easy tricks. The tricks will help you to memorise the table of 40 quickly. And, by learning this table, you would be able to solve all related mathematical problems in a fraction of seconds.

In this article, let us read out the multiplication table of 40, easy tricks and tips to memorise this table and later we will solve some related numerical problems.

Multiplication Table of 40: Addition of 40s

Table of 40 can be written by adding 40s repetitively as we know that multiplication is nothing but the addition of repetitive numbers. For example:

3 times 40 can be calculated as either adding 40 three times like 40 + 40 + 40 = 120 or multiplying 3 by 40 which gives 3 × 40 = 120.

Now, let's read out the table of 40 in a loud voice to memorise it.

Table Chart of 40 from 1 to 10

Children must remember the table of 40 from 1 to 10 which is given below:

40 × 1 = 40

40 × 6 = 240

40 × 2 = 80

40 × 7 = 280

40 × 3 = 120

40 × 8 = 320

40 × 4 = 160

40 × 9 = 360

40 × 5 = 200

40 × 10 = 400

Tips and Tricks to Memorise Table of 40

  • The most common trick for memorising any table is to read it as loud as you can. Once you dwell on the rhythm of the table, the multiplication table of 40 gets fixed in your mind.

  • The other common trick to remembering the table of 40 is following its pattern. We know that 40 = 4 × 10. Therefore, if we multiply the table of 4 by 10, we can easily get the table of 40.

To understand it better, let's look at the below-given table chart.

Table of 4

Multiply by 10

Table of 40

4 × 1 = 4

4 × 10 =

40

4 × 2 = 8

8 × 10 =

80

4 × 3 = 12

12 × 10 =

120

4 × 4 = 16

16 × 10 =

160

4 × 5 = 20

20 × 10 =

200

4 × 6 = 24

24 × 10 =

240

4 × 7 = 28

28 × 10 =

280

4 × 8 = 32

32 × 10 =

320

4 × 9 = 36

36 × 10 =

360

4 × 10 = 40

40 × 10 =

400

In simple language, adding zero (0) to the last digit of 4’s table will result in the multiplication table of 40.

By this trick, we can easily observe whether a given number is divisible by 40 or not. As 40 = 4 × 10, any number which is divisible by 4 and 10, will also be divisible by 40.

Numerical Type Questions Based on Table 40

Now we will solve different types of numerical type questions based on table 40.

Word Problems Based on Table 40

Question 1: There are 2 rows in the garden. In each row, a gardener has to plant 40 seeds. How many seeds does he have to plant in the garden?

Solution: Given, the number of rows in the garden = 2

Number of seeds to grow in each row = 40

Total number of seeds to grow in the garden = number of rows in the garden × number of seeds to grow in each garden

Total number of seeds to grow in the garden = 2 × 40 = 80

Therefore, the gardener has to grow 80 seeds in the garden.

Question 2: In a luggage van, 2800 boxes are loaded. The distributor wants to segregate these boxes equally in small 40 vans. How many boxes will each small van carry?

Solution: Given, boxes loaded in huge van = 2800

Number of small vans = 40

To distribute 2800 boxes in the 40 small vans, we have to divide 2800 by 40.

So, the number of boxes in each small van =\[\frac{2800}{40}=70\].

Therefore, the distributor has to load 70 boxes in each small van.

Number Problems

Question: Solve the following number problems:

  1. 68 × 40 =

  2. 5400 ÷ 40 =

  3. 40 × … = 9800

Answers:

  1. 68 × 40 = 2720

  2. 5400 ÷ 40 = 135

  3. To solve this question 40 × … = 9800, we have two methods:

First method: In this method, we have to think by which number we should multiply 40, to get 9800. For that, we will count the table to 40. Since we know the table of 40 from 1 to 10, we will not be able to solve this problem by this method. (Do not get sad, we will keep this point in mind and use it further.)

Second method: In this method, we divide the number on the right-hand side, i.e., 9800 by the number on the right-hand side, i.e., 40. Therefore, we get 9800/40=245

So, 245 is the required answer.

(Verify the answer: To verify whether 245 is the correct answer or not, we can use method 1. Let's multiply 40 by 245, if the resultant number is 9800 then we get the right answer.)

MCQs

Question 1: What is 8 times of 40?

  1. 210

  2. 600

  3. 480

  4. 320

Answer: d

Explanation: 8 times of 40 = 8 × 40 = 320

Therefore, the correct answer is (d).

FAQs on Table of 40 - Multiplication Table of 40

1. What are the rules followed by a multiplication table of 40?

The multiplication table of 40 follows the rule of adding numbers repetitively. For example, when we add 40 six times, we get 40 + 40 + 40 + 40 + 40 + 40 = 240, which is equivalent to 6 × 40 = 240.

2. What is the divisibility rule of 40?

The divisibility rule is related to checking whether any number is divisible by 40 or not. For that, we do not need to check by dividing it by 40. As we know 40 = 4 × 10, so if any number that is divisible by 4 and 10 both, then the number itself is divisible by 40.
