How Many Times We Can Attempt IIT Exam?

After the IIT JEE Main 2019 announcement made by Prakash Javadekar, we were flooded with different JEE Mains 2019 Exam related questions from our loving students. Among those, ‘How many Number of Attempts’ is one of the major queries that we will address in this blog.

According to NTA, a student can attempt JEE Main exam twice in a particular academic session. However, as per eligibility criteria & the age for appearing in JEE Mains 2019, a candidate can appear in the JEE Exam for 3 consecutive years. To check the JEE Main 2019 number of attempts, candidates can read the article below.

JEE Main 2019 Number of Attempts

Mainly those students who already appeared for IIT JEE exam once or twice, are really concerned after the JEE announcement. Earlier a student can appear 3 consecutive times, but as per the new JEE exam announcement, whoever has appeared for class 12 board exam in 2017/ 2018 is eligible for JEE Main 2019. So you just can’t drop a year but to attempt JEE back to back 3 years. But the good thing is, from this year onwards you can attempt JEE 6 times as JEE will be conducted twice a year.

In 1 year you get 2 attempts (January and April). So if you attempt JEE Main for 3 years consecutively, you will get 2 attempts x 3 = Total 6 attempts in 3 years!

Already appeared in JEE twice?

Wait, just breathe! So you have attempted JEE Main in both the year 2017 & 2018. It means you have already attempted JEE Main twice!

But, don’t worry! You can attempt both January & April JEE Main exam this year and this will be counted as a single attempt- not 2! And your admission will be based on the best score between the 2 exams.

You will get an advantage to perform better in the 2nd exam if your score is not good in the 1st exam. Or if in case you miss the 1st exam, then you can definitely appear in the 2nd exam without dropping another year. Just focus on your preparation and get ready to attempt JEE Mains and score high!
