ICSE Class 10 Fashion Designing Syllabus for Semester (1 & 2) 2024-25

1. Study of natural and synthetic fibres - its origin, properties and the way they are produced.

2.  Introduction of the manufacture of fibres, finishes which improve the properties and look of fabrics giving it a totally different appearance. 

3. In-depth knowledge of various types of fabrics, their choice and suitability for dressmaking and reaction under normal use.

4. Cost estimation of fabrics; approximate prices and estimation of quantity required. 

5. Choice of clothes for an individual of any age in relation to figure types, style, occasion, colour, fabrics and climatic conditions.

6. Choice, Purchase and use of tool equipment. 

7. Use of traditional, drafted or commercial patterns for making simple under and outer garments, a simple adaptation of patterns, layouts and cutting outfitting, and the sequence of processes in assembling garments, methods of pressing.

8. The use and making of simple or traditional designs in the construction and decoration of garments and articles.

Skills Required to be a Good Fashion Designer 

1. A good fashion designer should have artistic skills like drawing, sketching, coloring and sewing to make their designs along with the need to have a strong sense of colour and texture and know how different types of fabric or raw material will be once stitched. 

2. Designers need to have good visualisation skills so they know how a product will look even before it is made. For example, they can visualise how different fabrics drape and how the shape of the clothes fall on people before they are even made.

3. Fashion designers rely heavily on strong research skills because they need to understand what styles are in trend. They should be able to analyse the needs of their clients well. 

4. To make sure their designs are brought under budget but are of exceptional quality, designers should have a strong understanding of how business works. They should know where to buy fabrics from, market the designs to the right audience, and make the right decisions from data on what customers want.
