Imagine it is a hot summer day and you are walking on the road. You are tired and thirsty too. What is the first thing you would look for? A shade to stand under and cool down. It is not just us, but animals too feel weary and thirsty on hot summer afternoons. Even though we have umbrellas to cover our heads or can stand under some shady areas, all animals do not have this privilege, especially those in urban areas. Worry not, they can take shelter under trees and for that, we need to plant more trees. But some intelligent animals like Miss Goat know how to make a shelter to protect themselves from the heat. Do you know about Miss Goat? No? Read through to find out about Miss Goat’s house.

Miss Goat Builds a House on a Hot Summer Day

Miss Goat was an intelligent goat who lived in a forest close to a village.  On a beautiful sunny morning, she went to the fields for grazing. After some time, she started feeling hot. She looked up at the Sun and it was bright and blazing. She thought, “It is so hot! I need to take shelter from this heat before I collapse.” She walked towards the lake and drank some water from it. Then she had an idea! She bit off a lotus leaf from the lake and held it above her head. “This will act as an umbrella and help me stay cool”, Miss Goat thought.

But very soon the lotus leaf withered because of the heat. Miss Goat then saw some banana trees and tore a leaf from one of the trees. She thought, “This is a big leaf and I can take shelter under it.” As the Sun grew stronger and brighter, the banana leaf wilted too.

Miss Goat realised that only leaves would not help. She needed to make a house using tree branches and leaves. So she looked around in the forest and gathered some tree branches and leaves. With all her might she got them together and built a small house. But just then a strong hot breeze blew and took all the leaves and branches away! Her house was completely ruined.

Miss Goat was heartbroken but she refused to give up. She told herself, “I must look for a better way to build my house to save myself this summer.” As she walked towards the village, she saw a few people building a house. Miss Goat decided to wait and watch how they were building the house. When she thought she had learnt enough, she rushed to the spot where she had built her house previously. She dug holes and planted the tree branches; she gathered a whole lot of banana leaves and tied them together. Then she spread them above the branches and made a roof. She worked very hard to make her shelter. Finally, she sat under it to cool herself from the heat. The hot wind returned and tried to blow her house again but this time, it failed. Miss Goat felt happy about her success. She had finally managed to build a strong house to shelter herself from the summer days ahead.
