Madhya Pradesh was declared as “Tiger State of India” after it was recorded that Madhya Pradesh had the highest tiger count in India. The count was released by the All India Tiger Estimation Report 2018, on International Tiger’s Day on 29th July 2019. The number of tigers increased from 308 in 2014 to 526 in 2018.
Tigers are a huge attraction of tourists in Madhya Pradesh. There are six tiger reserves found here:
Kanha – It is the oldest wildlife sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh. It was declared as a National Park in 1955. Then in 1973, it was declared a Tiger Reserve.

Bandhavgarh – It is the best tiger reserve of Madhya Pradesh. The “white tigers” are found here. Also along with tigers, striped hyenas are also seen here. The best time to visit this place is the winters.

Pench– This Tiger Reserve got its name from the River Pench that flows through the forest and divides the area into two parts.

Panna – This Tiger Reserve was the 22nd Reserve of India.

Satpura –It is located in Hoshangabad. It is a very silent and calm national park.

Sanjay Dubri – It is the smallest tiger reserve in Madhya Pradesh.
