Hint : Agricultural production refers to the commercial apiculture, animal husbandry or poultry husbandry, the commercial production of field crops, tobacco, fruits, vegetables, timber, nursery stock, sod or flowers or any combination of these produces.
Complete answer :
The decline in farm production doesn’t occur immediately; rather, it is a gradual process. With time, certain changes lead to the emergence of conditions adverse to the farm production. We can enumerate some of the causes:-
Land under cultivation is conventionally being reduced due to increasing residential areas to accommodate the ever growing population
Decrease in soil quality with increasing deforestation and no measures taken to prevent the degradation of soil
All the available land has already been exploited to the limit that it can’t possibly yield the expected volumes of produce.
Various chemical fertilizers and pesticides harm the produce as well as the soil quality as well; further, these chemicals flow into the water bodies with rain and harm the marine life,
The HYV seeds promised a lot more than they could deliver; the advanced technology has deteriorated the soil quality and it has turned highly acidic in nature
The alluvial soil has been concentrated in the Gangetic basin region which receives abundant rainfall while other regions depend on rivers or artificial sources of irrigation
Depleting groundwater resources have an adverse impact on the crop production especially in areas which are far away from rivers and don’t receive ample amounts of rainfall, etc.
Lack of capital with the farmers which prevents them from purchasing good quality seeds and fertilizers that could prevent their crops from damage by the pests, etc.
Note :The government launches various schemes that ensure a minimal subsistence level of the farmers but in case of crop failure, there’s no remedy. The basic constraint in raising farm production are-fixed land, irrigation, machinery etc. Another major constraint in raising farm production is poverty.
