The evidence of this educational centre is known to us by Tibetan sources. The remains of Vikramshila university are partially excavated and still under process. Initially, B.P Sinha and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) excavated this site and revealed that it has a huge square monastery with a stupa in its centre.
