Hint: Fossil fuels are fuels that are derived from fossils, formed from the transformation of dead bodies of organisms into petrified rocks. These fossils are excavated, refined and can be burnt as fuel as they contain a lot of carbon content in them.

Complete step by step answer:
Fossil fuels have been the main source of energy for the last few centuries. They are derived from fossils, which are the remains of organisms that were trapped in rocks centuries ago and were themselves transformed into petrified rock.
These fossils are excavated, refined and converted to produce fossil fuels which can be burnt to produce energy. This is because fossils contain a lot of hydrocarbons, which are excellent fuel sources.
Two most common fossil fuels are petroleum and natural gas.
Petroleum consists of diesel and petrol that we use in our cars and generators. Petroleum also consists of LPG or liquefied petroleum gas, which is nothing but petroleum gas that is liquefied under high pressure. Households use LPG cylinders for cooking purposes.
The most common form in which natural gas is used is Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). It is a very clean fuel and does not cause pollution. Therefore, it is used in some small cars as a source of fuel.

Note: Students must remember that fossil fuels are non-renewable sources of energy, in the sense, that their supply is limited. In fact, in the present scenario, our usage of fossil fuels is more than the natural production and hence, the world is facing an energy crisis. Therefore, there is a shift towards producing energy through renewable sources such as wind and solar energy, that are seemingly unlimited in nature and also do not cause much pollution.
