Introduction

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) which is the full form of neet exam (UG), is the All India Pre-Medical Test, which is an entrance examination in India for students who wish to study undergraduate medical courses which are also known as MBBS and dental courses which are also known as BDS in government or private medical and dental colleges in India.

The undergraduate NEET for UG students, for MBBS and BDS courses, is currently conducted by the National Testing Agency also known as NTA, which provides the results to the Directorate General of Health Services at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Prior to the year 2023, the test for medical was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education or CBSE in partnership with Prometric Testing Pvt Ltd which is headquartered in the US.

AIIMS Delhi

All India Institute of Medical Sciences which is the full form of AIIMS, which is situated in New Delhi (Abbreviated AIIMS, New Delhi, or AIIMS D) is a medical school and hospital and public medical research university. This institute which is also known as AIIMS is ranked 1 in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework and it is also ranked 1 in South Asia and 231 in the world in  Life Sciences and Medicine by the QS WUR.

  • The first Indian center to perform a successful cardiac transplant is in AIIMS Delhi and the surgery was performed by P Venugopal, the ex-director of AIIMS in 1994.

  • An advanced center of stem cell therapy in India is there in AIIMS Delhi, especially cardiac and neurological. AIIMS holds a reputation for being a pioneer in stem cell injection.

  • India's first and only minimally invasive surgery training center is in AIIMS Delhi,  which is under collaboration with Germany.

  • AIIMS had the first in-vitro fertilization facility in the public sector (New Delhi) in February 2008.

Kayakalp Award which is given for the Cleanest Medical Facility for 3 consecutive years 2017, 2018, and 2019: First Prize for maintaining cleanliness within the institute's premises, is given to AIIMS Delhi.

Admissions

AIIMS was originally established as a super-specialty tertiary care center with a primary emphasis on specialized and research training facilities. MBBS is the basic medical course at bachelor's degree level in any of the colleges. This is followed by a master's degree level specialization in general surgery or any other field also, but general internal medicine, pediatrics, and other fields. The Super Specialties are those in the healthcare field whose practitioners need to be specialized certificate holders after completing their post-graduation studies, for example being cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, rheumatology, neurology, and pediatric neurology.  At AIIMS there are at least 45 super specialties at higher master's degree level. AIIMS also offers MSc and Ph.D. level research courses for those students who want to study further.

  • Maulana Azad Medical College 

Maulana Azad Medical College which is situated in New Delhi was established in the year 1958. The college is also known as MAMC in the short form. The institute is named after Maulana Abul Kalam Azad who was a great patriot and educationist primarily. The foundation stone of this college was laid by the then Home Minister of India, Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant. This institute was earlier functioning in the hospital block of Irwin (Lok Nayak) Hospital but later on it was shifted to its permanent campus located in Balmiki Basti in the year 1959 for the students who wanted to study medicine. Maulana Azad Medical College which is in New Delhi offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and postgraduate diploma courses to the students as per their interests. 

  • Vardhaman Mahavir College

Vardhman Mahavir Medical College or in short form  VMCC is situated at Safdarjung Hospital. This college was opened in November 2001 by the Government of India. VMMC comes under the Central Government, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare as it was started by them. The college is affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and has recognition from the Medical Council of India or MCI. This college offers MBBS, MS/MD, and Super Speciality Courses kinds of degrees for the students.

  • UCMS Delhi – University College of Medical Sciences University of Delhi

UCMS is a constituent college of the University of Delhi, it was founded in 1971.

Various medical and paramedical courses are offered. The MBBS admissions are 150 per year, MD/MS admissions are 71 per year, and Ph.D. courses in the Medical Faculty are also available. BSc(Medical Technology), and Radiography are examples of paramedical courses. Nursing diploma program at GTB Hospital, as well as Medical Laboratory In-Service Training. Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, with over 1000 beds, is the affiliated teaching hospital. It is Recognized for high-quality research; 7th in the country for the number of publications in PubMed-indexed journals. UNICEF, WHO, UNAIDS, World Bank, ICMR, ICMR, NACO, DST, and CSIR have distinguished/eminent faculty in their expert groups. It provides health care to the people of East Delhi and the surrounding border areas.

  • Lady Hardinge Medical College for Women New Delhi

Lady Hardinge Medical College for Women or LHMC medical college, New Delhi was established in 1914. LHMC was named in the memory of Lady Hardinge who laid the foundation stone for the Institute and students who wanted to study medicine. This College offers undergraduate (MBBS), postgraduate (MD, MS, PG Diploma), and super specialty (DM, M.Ch) courses in many different fields.

  • Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi 

In 1920, Aligarh hosted the first Jamia Millia Islamia. It was intended to be a national institution that would provide progressive education and nationalist ideals to students from all backgrounds, especially Muslims.

Jamia Millia Islamia has evolved into a multilayered educational system that encompasses all aspects of education, including undergraduate programs such as BDS and many more PG and diploma programs. Jamia has made significant progress in recent years. In 2015, it received NAAC accreditation with an 'A' grade.

  • Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, New Delhi

The British built Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, formerly known as Willingdon Hospital, for their staff. It had only 54 beds. It was handed over to the New Delhi Municipal Committee after independence.

It was again handed over to the Central Government of Independent India in 1954. It is entirely funded by the Indian government (Ministry of Health Family Welfare). In this hospital, no emergency patients are turned away. This hospital has a non-invasive Cardiac Lab and a Cardiac Cath Lab with TMT, Echo-Cardiography, Coronary Angiography, and Pace Maker implantation capabilities. 

  • Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital, New Delhi

Dr. Baba Sahib Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital is a student-centered comprehensive campus that aims to provide leadership and excellence in the fields of teaching, clinical care, and service. On June 12th, 2016, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Delhi, Sh. Arvind Kejriwal, Hon'ble Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Sh. Manish Sisodia, and Hon'ble Health Minister, Sh. Satyendar Jain, officially opened the college. At a glittering White Coat Donning ceremony, the Hon'ble Health Minister Sh. Satyendar Jain and the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of the GGSIPU welcomed the first batch of 98 students into the world of medical academics. The college is currently preparing for the second batch of 100 students to begin classes for MBBS in the upcoming academic session.   • North Delhi Municipal Corporation(NDMC) Medical College

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) Medical College was established in 2013 on the grounds of the Hindu Rao Hospital and is affiliated with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in Dwarka, Delhi. The Medical College and Hindu Rao Hospital are now part of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, which was formed in 2012 after the Delhi Municipal Corporation was divided into three separate corporations. The North Delhi Municipal Corporation Medical College was established on the hospital grounds with the admission of 50 MBBS students as the first batch. Many significant landmarks surround the campus, the most notable of which is the Raj Niwas.

  • ESIC Dental College and Hospital, Rohini, New Delhi

Dental College & Hospital of ESIC New Delhi is home to one of the most well-known government dental schools in the city. It was established in the years 2010-11. It was founded with the goal of providing leadership and excellence in teaching, clinical care, and medical care. Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University is affiliated with the college. The college was named after India's most prominent activist, social reformer, and first Law Minister, as well as the chief architect of the Indian Constitution.
