Introduction to the Chapter

Initially, in Chapter 20 of Class 9, the students will be introduced to the concepts of Perimeter, and Area of plane figures. The first shape students get to study is the triangle, where we understand the subtopics like base and altitude (also known as height) and how by calculating the product of these two we can find the area of the triangle. Heron’s formula in this section is a very important topic for the students to understand which can be used as an alternative to calculating the perimeter and area of a triangle by using its sides. The topic of triangles ends with some types of triangles, their characteristics and their formulas to calculate perimeter and area.

The next shape the students learn about is the quadrilateral which can be considered a broad topic in this chapter.
