The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in India has surpassed the 500-mark and reached a count of 527 cases as on 24th March 2020 with new states showing positive cases. Earlier this month on 11th March, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it a pandemic with the number of global cases now nearing the four lakh-mark.

The current outbreak has caused a severe impact on the lives of working individuals and students, especially since our hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a nationwide lockdown in India on 24th March by invoking Section 144.

What is a lockdown?

A lockdown means a stoppage of all forms of social activities, mass gatherings, etc

Therefore, one's work life and academic progress are affected significantly by this drastic yet necessary measure. Amidst this coronavirus crisis, the JEE aspirants are suffering the most. Keeping in view the health risk Covid-19 poses, the National Test Agency (NTA) postponed  JEE Mains earlier this month. The new date for the same is expected to be announced on 31st March 2020.

This JEE Main 2020 postponement due to coronavirus scare has affected students in more than one possible way.

How Are JEE Aspirants Affected Due to Coronavirus?

  • With the postponement of exam dates and new dates still unannounced, students are facing uncertainty. They aren't yet sure when the JEE Mains exam dates will be, which affects their preparation.

  • With the government imposing lockdown in most cities, students have to remain at home only. This may have an impact over their study as they can't acquire the needed study help by going to tuitions.

  • Since stepping out of the house isn't an option; your kids' physical health is affected due to a lack of bodily activities. Moreover, the fear, uncertainty, and study pressure all amalgamate to put a mental strain on your kid.

Apart from these, there can be instances your children are struggling with a concept and not getting the necessary study help. Or, they may have difficulty in practising the numerical questions as quickly as they need to. In such scenarios, it becomes essential to have professional guidance so that your children can prepare and study using the right strategy.

With coaching classes and tuitions out of the scenario, how do you plan on supporting your kid in their JEE preparations?

7 Ways Your Kid Can Prepare Better for JEE

Since the Coronavirus outbreak has been taking its toll on humankind, you need to ensure that your kids remain safe at home. While you do that, make sure you consider these pointers to help your kid's JEE preparation remain undeterred.

  1. Help your kid manage time

Time is of the essence, and your kid must distribute this time in lockdown to prepare for the upcoming JEE exam effectively. Since the dates are yet to be announced, you need to help your kid make a time table which they can follow and study accordingly to improve their performance.

Creating a practically feasible time table and adhering to it will make your kids punctual with the study routine. This way, they will be able to complete a particular chapter or topic in time so that they are left with enough time for numerical practice, MOCK tests, and revision.

  1. Start with the basics

To qualify for JEE, your kid must start learning the basic concepts first. As per experts' recommendations, they must begin with the concepts discussed in NCERT. As these concepts form the basis of understanding, your kid will have an edge in learning the advanced concepts more conveniently.

  1. Help them learn the concepts by enrolling in online classes

At this current pandemic situation, students can't go out for regular tuitions. However, online teachings can be a part of their study routine. To aid individuals in this crucial time of COVID-19, Vedantu provides online live classes to students preparing for JEE for free.

You can register for the scheduled topic-based classes as per your kid's study need. These classes are conducted by our professional and seasoned tutors to help students understand the concepts easily and quickly.

  1. Opt for quality study material

Study material and reference books are both essential for students as these help your kid prepare for the fast-approaching JEE exams effectively. However, make sure that the study material explains the topics easily, has a variety of questions, practise sets, important questions, and glossary, etc.

With stores closed due to coronavirus, you can help your kid access the study material available online based on their quality and content.

  1. Encourage to practise questions for better results

Since practising question papers along with learning the concepts are crucial for your child's JEE preparation, you need to encourage your child for the same. Solving question papers regularly will allow your kid to be more conversant with the concepts they learn and will help them with time management skills

  1. Take revision notes

Revision is the key to effective learning. It is quintessential to brush up chapters and topics learnt long ago to be steadily in touch with the extensive syllabus of JEE Mains.

Since the exam is postponed due to coronavirus outbreak your kid has sufficient time to revise. Avail the revision notes provided by Vedantu and help your kid brush up on the concepts to excel in the upcoming JEE.

  1. Take MOCK tests

MOCK tests help your kid assess their learning and knowledge of the concept and provide a better insight into the competition they are up against. Help your child take the full-length test and see how they perform. Taking up all India MOCK tests will help your kid find where they stand against a pool of candidates.

Make sure they adhere to these pointers for having improved chances of qualifying JEE.

Meanwhile, you as a parent should ensure that your children remain healthy and safe in this epidemic situation. This will not only keep them safe and protected in their homes but will ensure they are fit to prepare for the fast-approaching exams.

Health-Related Considerations for Parents

While the coronavirus outbreak has shaken the entire world with its catastrophic effects on human lives, you must keep your child healthy at home. To do so, you need to observe the necessary safety measures and teach your children the same. Mentioned below are the safety measures that you must take to keep your child stay protected.

  • Don't touch mouth, nose, or eyes with unwashed hands.

  • Wash your hands frequently using soap, hand wash, or an alcohol-based sanitizer.

  • Stay indoors and avoid contact with anyone in your locality developing signs of Covid-19.

  • Cleanse or disinfect the frequently touched surfaces like doorknobs, door handles, switches, etc.

  • Maintain good sanitary habits and hygiene.

  • Adopt good respiratory hygiene habits. Make sure to cover your mouth while coughing or sneezing and dispose of the same immediately.

  • Be wary of the coronavirus symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath, diarrhoea, etc.) and make sure to seek medical advice should the need arise.

  • Maintain at least 1-metre distance with the infected individual.

These prevention tips will help you in keeping your child safe from the pandemic coronavirus situation.

In addition to your child's safety, their academic career is on the stake as well. Hence, you need to consider the factors mentioned earlier and help your kid excel in their JEE preparation.
