Short Story for Kids - The Yellow Ladybird

How would you feel if all your friends looked similar to you? We all are different in our own way and that makes us unique from each other. We must all love ourselves the way we are. Similarly, little Lara was different and unique from all her friends. But little Lara was sad. Do you want to find out why? Then, let us read the story of a yellow ladybird named Lara and find out why she was different.

Lara- The Yellow Ladybird

Once upon a time, there lived a ladybird named Lara. She was a special bug and had bright yellow wings, unlike her other friends who had red coloured wings. Everyone around her loved her yellow wings but Lara always wished to have red wings like others.

Every morning when Lara would go to her school, her friends Bibi Butterfly and Manto Mantis (the grasshopper) greeted her good morning. Even the sulky spider named Sesa was happy to see her bright yellow wings. Everyone at her school loved how different Lara looked and played with her every day.

But little Lara was not happy at all. She wanted to be like others and have red wings. Looking at her daughter to be sad, Lara’s mother decided to help her out. She brought red paint and coloured Lara’s wings red. Lara was happy to be like her friends and went happily to school the next day.

But sadly no one greeted little Lara the next day, not even the Bibi Butterfly and the Manto Mantis. Lara walked sadly and reached school. She was surprised and heartbroken to see none of her friends talking to her. Nobody came forward to greet her. She felt lonely and sat alone in a corner.

After a while, her teacher, Miss Maya spotted her. She said, “Oh! I see that you have painted your wings red. But your bright yellow wings were lovely and unique. Those yellow wings made you different, Lara. Just like Sipho’s spot and Sally’s legs. You all are different and lovely in your own way. You must love them.”.

By now, little Lara realized that she had made a mistake and went home quickly. She took a shower and washed all the paints from her wings. “Wow! My bright yellow wings look so pretty. I will never paint them again. But maybe sometime, to get purple or something nice. But never red.”.
