A Tale about Betrayal

Betrayal is a spark for stories to bloom in front of our eyes.

It is important in literature because it surprises the reader when it happens in the story. It pleases their curiosity, causing them to go for the book with two eager hands and devour it.

They also teach us how to understand others and how they behave. These stories, especially for children, provide a solid foundation for understanding the basics of emotions. In this story, we will read a betrayal story and the moral behind it.

The Cunning Rat Story

Once upon a time, in a little den, there lived a cunning rat. When the rat was about to go out in search of food, he came across a cat.

This cat seemed to be watching intently at the den's entrance. "If I go now, the cat will definitely eat me alive," the rat thought. The rat then had an idea. He rushed down through the rat colony to his friend's den. Unlike him, the cunning rat's friend was simple.

The simple rat was astonished when he saw his friend. The simple rat greets his friend after a long time apart. The cunning rat asks the simple rat, "Did you know there's a cornfield right outside?  I just discovered it and decided it wouldn't be good to eat alone. So I rushed over to invite you."

The simple rat exclaimed, "This is amazing news!" "Friend, lead the way. Finally, we'll enjoy a delicious meal!" Being well aware of the cat's presence, the cunning rat thought of yet another plan to trick the poor rat. The cunning rat replies, "How can I?" "I've admired you since we were little. I'm afraid I won't be able to do such a shameful thing as lead you! Please, lead the way. I shall follow you."

Because it was a simple rat, it didn't suspect anything and led the way. They soon arrived at the door to their tiny den. Because the simple rat had no idea about the cat waiting outside, he stepped out unprotected. When the cat noticed the simple rat, he jumped on it and killed it.

The clever mouse, on the other hand, raced for the cornfield. "Stupid rat, he fell for my trap!" the cunning rat exclaimed without regret. An eagle swooped down from nowhere and grabbed the cunning rat away just as it was about to reach the cornfield.

No matter what the cunning rat tried, he was unable to escape. "Oh no, I'm going to be killed and eaten like my friend!" he cried.
