The Princess Rosette Story

Once, a king and a queen lived with their two sons. They were blessed with a beautiful baby girl. Witches came, enjoyed the party of her birth celebration and prophesied with hesitation that the baby girl would bring death to the princes. The king and queen were devastated. They approached a hermit for a solution.

The hermit said, “Build the biggest tower and keep her at the top.” The king did the same. For years, princess Rosette remained at the top of the tower leading a sad life.

Years passed. The king and queen died. The eldest prince was made the king. He decided to free the princess as he thought the curse had been lifted.

She was happy to go outside and see the royal gardens. She enjoyed eating fruits in the garden and plucking flowers.

The Princess’ Desire

One day, princess Rosette saw a beautiful peacock and was astonished by its beauty. She decided to marry the king of peacocks. She explained her desire to her brothers.

The king and prince decided to meet with the king of peacocks. They went outside riding their horses to find the king.

They travelled thousands of leagues to find the king. Eventually, they came to a kingdom full of peacocks. People wore clothes made of peacock feathers.

The subjects took the two brothers to the royal court. The brothers had a beautiful portrait of their sister ready. They showed it to the king. The king of peacock decided to marry their sister but on one condition.

If she was not as beautiful as the portrait, the brothers would be executed. The brothers agreed. The king sent an invitation to the princess.

The Princess’ Journey

The princess was excited. She took a nurse, her dog, and a boatman to take the shortest route.

In the middle of one night, the wicked nurse made a plan with the boatman to drown the princess, take her royal clothes and dress the nurse’s daughter to marry the king of the peacock. The boatman did not agree, but the nurse did it anyway.

When princess Rosette was sleeping, the nurse wrapped her in her bedding and left her in the water. She took her dress and gave it to her ugly daughter.

When the princess woke up, she found herself in the middle of the sea. She was taken in by an honest old man. The princess asked her dog to bring the best food in the kitchen.

The dog jumped and stole food from the royal kitchen that belonged to the king of peacocks. A few days passed, and the nurse arrived with her ugly daughter.

The king was infuriated. He imprisoned them and ordered an execution. He also ordered the execution of the princess’ brothers in jail.

The Sweet Reunion

The princess kept on asking the dog to find food, and it kept stealing it from the royal kitchen. One day, the dog was followed by the royal chef. He found the princess and the old man eating the royal food. All of them were caught and brought to the king of peacocks.
