He entered the service of an upscale householder called Sthuladatta.  At some point, he hoped to fill himself up to the throat with ghee and flesh. Instead, he stole a horse from his master's son-in-law. When Sthuladatta heard that his horse had been stolen, he called Harisarman to mind and asked him to inform him who had taken it. He drew diagrams and said: "The horse has been placed by thieves on the border south of this place". Many men ran and brought the horse quickly, praising Harisrman's discernment.
