उनका जन्म 10 सितंबर 1930 को कोलकाता, पश्चिम बंगाल में हुआ था l

वे लेखक होने के साथ-साथ एक कवि भी हैं l

कहानी का सारांशः

इस कहानी में एक कंजूस राजा और एक सन्यासी के बीच होने वाली बातों का उल्लेख किया गया है |
इस कहानी के अनुसार, एक राजा था | वह अपने कपड़ों के ऊपर बहुत खर्चा किया करता था | लेकिन इतना धन होने के बाद भी वह किसी को भी दान नहीं देता था |
उसके राजसभा में केवल बड़े लोगों की भलाई के बारे मे बात होती थी | गरीबों, विद्वानों, सज्जनों के बारे मे कोई नहीं सोचता था ।
एक बार वहां बहुत अकाल पड़ गया और बहुत से लोग भूखे-प्यासे मरने लगे ।
जब राजा ने यह खबर सुनी तो उन्होंने मदद करने से इनकार कर दिया ।
जब लोगों ने राजा से सहायता मांगी तो उस निर्दयी राजा ने कहा कि आज अकाल है ,कल अगर भूकंप आया या कही लोगों के पास खाना नहीं है तो इस तरह सभी की सहायता करते-करते मेरा राजभंडार खाली हो जाएगा ।राजा की ऐसी बातें सुनकर सभी निराश होकर चले गए ।
अकाल बढ़ता गया और बहुत से लोग भूख से मरने लगे।
कुछ लोग फिर से राजा के पास पहुंचे | उन्होंने राजा से केवल दस हजार रुपए देने की विनती की । लेकिन राजा ने देने से मना कर दिया।
तभी एक व्यक्ति ने कहा कि आप लाखों रुपए मे से थोड़ा धन हमें देंगे तो कोई नुकसान होगा ।
राजा ने फिर भी उनकी नहीं सुनी ।
इसके बाद दूसरे व्यक्ति ने कहा कि महल में प्रतिदिन हजारों रुपये सुगंधित वस्त्रों,

मनोरंजन और महल की सजावट में खर्च होते हैं | यदि इन रुपयों में से ही थोड़ा हमें मिल जाए तो सबकी जान बच सकती है ।

यह सुनकर राजा को गुस्सा आ गया और लोग उससे डरकर वहाँ से चले गए ।
दो दिन बाद एक बूढ़ा सन्यासी राजसभा में आया । उसने राजा को आशीर्वाद देते हुए अपनी इच्छा को पूरी करने की बात कही |
राजा अपनी तारीफ सुनकर खुश हुआ और सन्यासी से उसकी इच्छा पूछी ।
तब सन्यासी ने कहा कि वह राजकोष से बीस दिन तक भिक्षा लेना चाहता है|
आगे उसने कहा कि पहले दिन जो भिक्षा ली जाएगी, दूसरे दिन उस भिक्षा का दुगुना देना होगा, फिर उसके तीसरे दिन उसका भी दुगुना, और इसी तरह से प्रतिदिन दुगुना होता चला जाएगा ।
इसके बाद राजा ने उससे भिक्षा के बारे मे पूछा ।
तब सन्यासी ने कहा कि पहले दिन एक रुपया दिया जाए और बीस दिन तक दुगुने करके देते रहने का हुक्म दिया जाए |
राजा ने उसकी बात मान ली और सन्यासी राजा की जय-जयकार करते हुए घर लौट गया।
राजा के आदेश के अनुसार रोज भिक्षा मिलने लगी ।
ठीक दो सप्ताह तक भिक्षा देने के बाद राज भंडारी ने हिसाब किया । उसने पाया कि धन बहुत कम हो गया है । उसने यह बात मंत्री को बताई | मंत्री भी चिंता में पड़ गया |
उसने को बीस दिनों का हिसाब बताने को कहा । भंडारी ने बताया कि बीस दिनों मे दस लाख अड़तालीस हजार पाँच सौ पिचहत्तर रुपए कम हो जाएंगे ।
यह सुनकर मंत्री घबरा गया और राजा के पास जाकर भिक्षा के बीस दिनों का हिसाब बताया ।
राजा भी यह सुनकर घबरा गया और सन्यासी को राजसभा में बुलाया ।
संन्यासी के आते ही राजा उसके पैरों पर गिर पड़ा और उसे उसकी भिक्षा का हिसाब बताया ।
तभी संन्यासी ने गंभीर होकर कहा कि इस राज्य में लोग अकाल से मर रहे हैं । अगर आप मुझे केवल पचास हजार रुपए देंगे तो मैं इससे संतुष्ट हो जाऊंगा ।
इसके बाद सन्यासी को पचास हजार रुपए दे दिए गए ।
यह खबर पूरे गाँव मे फैल गई और सभी लोग राजा को दानवीर कर्ण कहने लगे ।

इस कहानी से हमें यह शिक्षा मिलती है हमें एक-दूसरे के प्रति दया और परोपकार की भावना रखनी चाहिए |

The chapter Daan Ka Hisaab Class 4 is all about a greedy king and a sage who teaches him a lesson. There was a greedy king who was incredibly rich but didn’t spend any money on his kingdom and his subjects. During a famine, he refused to pay a meager amount of Rs.10,000 to his people, who were dying of hunger. Very soon, a sage came to the king and asked for some alms. The king agreed to give him a small amount of money. However, the sage had one condition. He said that he would take just 1 Rupee on the first day but he will take double what he took the next day. Very soon, the royal treasury began to lose money. When the king heard about it, he saw that the sage would have more than 10 lakh rupees on the 20th day, thus emptying the treasury. So, he asked the sage not to empty the royal treasury. The sage agreed on the condition that he would give Rs.50,000 to the famine-struck people. The greedy king had no other choice but to accept this condition.
