The question is based on the fractions. As we know that the fractions are of 3 kinds, Proper fraction, Improper fraction and Mixed fraction.If the value of numerator is less than the value of denominator in the fraction then it is Proper fraction. If the value of the numerator is more than the value of the denominator in the fraction then it is Improper fraction. The whole and fraction is combined together then it is mixed fraction.

Now consider the given fraction \[3\dfrac{2}{5}\]
To convert the fraction we multiply the number which is in the denominator to the whole number. So on multiplying 3 and 5 we get 15. To this number add the number 2. On adding the 15 and 2 we get 17. The number 17 is placed in the numerator in the fraction we have
\[ \Rightarrow \dfrac{{17}}{5}\]

Hence we have simplified the given mixed fraction. In the resultant fraction the value of the numerator is greater than the value of the denominator. By the definition of an improper fraction, we can say that the resultant fraction is improper fraction.

Hence it is in the form of improper fraction.

Note: The improper fraction can be converted to the mixed fraction. the proper fraction cannot be converted into the mixed fraction. where in the improper fraction the numerator value is greater than the value of the denominator. So we can apply the division arithmetic operation but it is impossible to the proper fraction.
