He was in favour of Democratic Socialism and believed in non-violence tactics like satyagraha to be the most powerful weapons. Narendra Dev was influenced towards national politics by Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Aurobindo Ghosh. While he was a teacher he gathered interest in the study of Marxism and Buddhism. He played a major role in the Hindi language movement.
