This state is bounded by Nagaland and Manipur in the east, Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh in the North, West Bengal in the west, Tripura, Mizoram and Bangladesh to the south. The official language is Assamese. Bengali is also spoken which became official in some places like Barak valley and Bodo. This state is well known for its sea and silk. The first state for oil drilling in Asia was Assam. It is a home for one-horned Indian rhinoceros and other animals like the wild water buffalo, hog, pygmy, tiger, various species of birds and the Asian elephant. This state receives more rainfall than most of the other states of India and attracts its wildlife tourism because of the Kaziranga National Park and Manas National Park which are the World Heritage sites. It is bounded by the seven Indian states.
