Question

# The people of Sundargram planted trees in the village garden. Some of the trees were fruit trees. The number of non-fruit trees was two more than three times the number of fruit trees. What was the number of fruit trees planted if the number of non-fruit trees planted was 77?

Hint – In this question there are two categories of trees given to us. One is a fruit tree and the others are non-fruit trees. Now there is certain information providing relation between the number of fruit trees and non-fruit trees given to us. So let fruit trees be a variable and use the conditions provided in question to find out the variable.

Let the number of fruit trees be x.
And it is given that the number of non-fruit trees planted was 77.
Now it is given that the number of non-fruit trees were two more than three times the number of fruit trees.
So, construct the linear equation according to this information we have,
Non-fruit trees are equal to thrice the fruit trees plus two.
$\Rightarrow 77 = 3x + 2$
Now simplify this equation we have,
$\Rightarrow 77 - 2 = 3x$
$\Rightarrow 3x = 75$
Now divide by 3 in the above equation we have,
$\Rightarrow x = \dfrac{{75}}{3} = 25$.
So, the number of fruit trees in the village garden is 25.
So this is the required answer.

Note – Whenever we face such types of problems the key concept is simply to formulate mathematical equations using the information provided in the question. Then use these equations to get the required entity. This concept will help you get the right answer.
