In blood, semen, or vaginal and other bodily fluids, organisms (bacteria, viruses or parasites) that cause sexually transmitted diseases can pass from person to person.

1.Gonorrhoea: Gonorrhea also referred to as clap, is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) which is caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae in both men and women. Symptoms in men include a burning sensation or pain with urination, discharge from the penis and testicular pain. In women infected with the bacteria there can be burning during urination, vaginal discharge, vaginal bleeding between periods, or pelvic pain. There can also be pelvic inflammatory disease in infected women. The transmission can be through oral, vaginal or anal sex. Unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners, etc can cause Gonorrhoea. This infection is treatable with a proper dose of antibiotics, If left untreated, it can cause infertility in women. Use of proper contraceptives and awareness can prevent this disease.

2.Syphilis: It is a bacterial infection caused by Treponema pallidum. It can be also transmitted by vaginal, oral or anal sex. An infected mother can also pass this infection to her unborn child. There are three stages of Syphilis: Primary, secondary and tertiary. In primary stages, sores develop around genitals or in mouth. They are usually painless. In secondary stage skin rashes, swollen lymph nodes and fever are the symptoms. The tertiary stage poses severe medical problems. Using proper protection during sex and avoiding sexual contact with an infected person can reduce the risk of this infection.
