Birth control can be done by the following ways.
- Barrier method: In this, the entry of sperms into the female vagina is prevented. Example: using condoms.
- Change in hormone levels to prevent ovulation: In this, female hormone levels are changed so that there is no ovulation and the ovum is not formed for fertilization. Example: birth control pills.
- Surgical method: Vasectomy and tubectomy are the two methods for male and female respectively. These are the permanent methods to sterility.
- Intrauterine devices: these allow the fertilization of eggs but do not allow the implantation of the formed zygote in the placenta.

>Talking of surgical methods. These are hundred percent effective and permanent. There is no going back. If it is done it cannot be undone.

>Vasectomy: It is a minor surgery which makes a male sterile and the sperms are not reached to the urethra, they are not ejaculated in semen. Thus, the sperms cannot enter the vagina. In this treatment, the vas deferens is cut, tied and sealed.

>Tubectomy: It is the same as vasectomy, the only difference is it is done by females. It is a method of contraception. In this, the fallopian tubes are cut, tied and sealed. The eggs which are produced do not reach the uterus. Hence, there will be no fertilization. This is also called tubal sterilization.

Note:There are certain side effects of birth control methods. In case of condoms, urinary tract infections or allergies may occur. After taking pills, there might be nausea, vomiting or spotting. Surgical methods do not have side effects.
