On 6 October 1949, then Prime Minister of India, Jawahar Lal Nehru laid the foundation stone for the academy. Its Construction was started in October 1949. The estimated cost for the construction of NDA was Rs 6.45 crores respectively.
The National Defence Academy was formally commissioned in 1954 (7 December 1954). However the inauguration ceremony was held on 16 January 1955.
The National Defence Academy (NDA) is the joint services academy of the Indian Armed Forces, where cadets of the three services, the Army, the Navy and the Air Force train together. After this training, they go on to their respective service academies for further pre-commission training.
The NDA is located in Khadakwasla, Pune, Maharashtra. NDA is also the first tri-service academy in the world.
