Hint:Climate is one of the most vital things which affects our life directly yet it did not receive our attention even indirectly. The greed of man for money has led him to explore all avenues to make money and, in this process, he has ignored the laws which need to be complied in order to maintain harmony with nature. Climate change is the result of one such greed only.
Complete answer: Greenhouse effect refers to the phenomenon of increase in the temperature of the planet on account of emission of gases. This is a natural process which warms the earth. The radiations coming from the sun are reflected back by the earth’s surface and some of them are absorbed and re-radiated. The gases such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, methane, oxides of nitrogen and sulphur, did not allow the reflected radiation to leave the earth’s atmosphere and hence the temperature is increasing.
Because of this increase in temperature which is not due to any natural process, it creates an imbalance in the cycle which thereby affects other natural phenomenon such as uneven rainfall at some places, no rainfall at other places, melting of glaciers and icebergs, increase in the height of the ocean’s which will results in flooding of plains.
Note: The most important contributing factor to the greenhouse effect is the burning of fossil fuels. In India approximately 54% of the demand for electricity is met by Coal based power generation centers. Coal combustion produces carbon dioxide and the carbon dioxide is one of the deadliest greenhouse gas. One way to tackle this man made menace is to promote the use of renewable sources of energy such as harnessing the solar energy.
