The Indian railways were founded on 8th May 1845. The headquarter is in “New Delhi”. The majority of the population of India uses this mode of transport to reach from one place to another place. It also manages the third-largest railway network in the world. The services of the Indian railways include passenger services, freight services, parcel carriers, catering, and tourism service, and other similar services. The Indian Railways has a total of 18 divisions. The first train of this country was the “Red hill railway”. The great Indian peninsula railway operated India’s first passenger train. The total number of employees in railways is 13,08,000 as per the data of the year 2016-17. The Indian railways are chaired by a board having seven members. They report to the Ministry of railways.
