It is one of the basic sensations of biology. It is the result of natural selections performing upon some age group.
On the basis of their nature and role in evolution, the adaptations are classified into categories: Short term and long term adaptations.

Short Term AdaptationLong Term Adaptation
These are temporary changesThese are permanent changes
These are advanced in response to momentary change in the atmosphereThese are advanced in response to eternal change in the atmosphere
These are not inheritedThese are inherited

Examples: During winter time, Sleeping animals interrupt all their metabolic actions.Plant growth response like phototropism, geotropism etc.Examples: The white colour and highly fragranced flowers created by night flourishing plants, to invite pollinators.Kangaroo creates use of its heavy tail as fifth limb for paired the body while running

Note: The short-term adaptations help the organism in survival and long-term adaptations are important in evolution of the species. Plants also adapt, allowing their nutrients as sunflowers turn to the way of the sun and insectivorous plants such as Venus flytrap eat pests to satisfy their nitrogen shortage.
