There are a number of reasons as to why a glass is used to make most of the apparatuses. A few of the reasons are –
Glass is relatively chemically inert . So it will not interfere with the reagents or products. The reaction will take place uninterrupted while the other materials may not do so. Here, glass is preferred over other materials.
It is transparent so that we can clearly see through and observe the changes taking place in the reaction. This is an important factor in experimental chemistry.
It melts at high temperature . It is prone to high temperatures. So it can withstand higher temperatures without melting. It has high resistance to heat .
It can be ground to make good seals for values and stoppers.
It is non porous and it can be cleaned easily without much effort .
The glass apparatus can be formed with fairly basic equipment and processes . The ability to make basic glassware from the stock section is one of the basic skills of a lab technician .
It is also cheap and hence budget friendly.

Because of the above reasons,glass is preferred over other materials while making apparatuses.

Note:Above are the reasons that are in favour . However we need to keep in mind that we have to be careful while holding a glass and performing experiments . Because the glass may have other properties but it breaks off easily if fallen . It is brittle in nature .
