NSO Science Olympiad Important Questions for Class 11 with Solutions

The Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) is the organization that will be conducting the National Science Olympiad (NSO) in October, November and December 2023. The NSO exam is conducted yearly for students studying in Class 1 to Class 12. The aim of the exam is to promote logical thinking and foster a scientific spirit in children. 

Students have to sit for 2 rigorous tests that are conducted at Levels 1 and 2. The Level 1 examination is conducted for all students studying in classes 1 to 12. On the other hand, only those students who clear the level 1 exam can appear for the level 2 exam. Moreover, only students from classes 3 to 12 are eligible for the level 2 exam. Students can register for the SOF NSO through their respective schools. Approximately 10 lakh students register for this exam every year.

1. Where can I practice Higher Order Thinking Questions for Science?

2. How many marks are allotted to each section of the paper?

Ans: Let us take a look at the marks distribution of the NSO paper. This will enable students to understand how to prepare for the upcoming exam by getting an idea on which section is the most scoring. There are 25 questions in Section 1. Each question carries 1 mark. Section 2 has 5 questions worth 3 marks each. Most students fail to fetch marks here as this section is the hardest. Section 3 also has questions worth 1 mark each just like Section 1, but only 20 questions are asked here. So in total, you have to answer 50 questions in a SOF NSO paper, amounting to 60 marks. 

3. How should students attempt the NSO Science paper?

Ans: Students should always start the NSO Science paper with the section they're most confident about. If you know you are good in Physics, complete all the Physics questions first. This will give you confidence thereby boosting your morale. You will be in a better headset to solve other questions from the remaining subjects. Similarly, for a student who feels that Biology is his strongest suit, he should finish all the Biology questions first. Attempt the whole paper in this manner and you're bound to score well in your exams. 

4. Which chapters are the most important for Biology?

Ans: After careful analysis of the previous year papers, experts have noted that certain sections from the Biology NCERT Class 11 textbook are more important from the examination point of view. Units that a lot of questions are generally asked from are Plant and Human Physiology. Chapters like Morphology and Anatomy of Flowering Plants are of utmost importance. Similarly, for Human Physiology, chapters like Neural Control and Coordination can fetch students a lot of marks. Always try to revise these units.

5. What should a student do to score full marks in Physics in NSO?

Ans: The Class 11 NSO Science paper focuses more on numericals than theory questions in Physics. Many questions come from units like Kinematics and Mechanics. Students need to have their concepts clear to do well in this subject.
