IEO Syllabus: Class 7

The syllabus for IEO Class 7 is provided below  which is divided into four sections. Each section includes important topics covered in the syllabus. 

Section 1:

Spellings, Collocations and Words related to Travel, Locations, Activities, Homonyms and Homophones, etc., Synonyms, Antonyms, Analogies and Spellings, One word, Phrasal verbs and Idioms, Modals, Word order, Nouns, Pronouns, Verbs, Adverbs, Adjectives, Articles, Prepositions, Conjunctions, Punctuation, Tenses, Voices and Narration, etc.

Section 2:

Search for and retrieve information from various text types like News stories, Brochures, Formal and informal letters and advertisements. Understand information given in News reports, Brochures, Itinerary, etc., Acquire broad understanding of and look for specific information in short narratives, Biographies, Notices and Messages, etc.

Section 3:

Ability to understand situation-based variations in functions like requesting and refusing, Apologies and stating of preferences and expression of intent, etc.

2. When are the results of the IEO exam declared? 

Ans: The results of the IEO exam are declared within 8 weeks after the completion of the exam. The results of the students are sent directly to the schools registered with the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF). Plus, students can also get their SPRs (Students’ Performance Report) from the official website of SOF. Students who will secure top ranks are eligible to apply for the IEO level 2 exam. From each zone, 25 candidates are selected from every class to compete in the next round.

3. Does the IEO exam paper have negative markings?

Ans: The International English Olympiad (IEO) does not have a negative marking on the question paper. Students are only judged on the basis of correct answers. There are no marks for the unattempted questions. The question paper of IEO contains Multiple Choice Type questions for all classes. For classes 3 to 12 the OMR answer sheets are provided with the question papers. Whereas, for classes 1 to 2, question papers are provided with answer sheets that need to be returned after the completion of the exam. Students of classes 3 to 12 are only allowed to keep the question papers with themselves and return the answer sheets. 

4. What are the tips to get a good rank in the IEO exam? 

Ans: To crack level 1 of the IEO exam, students can follow the given suggestions. 

  • Know the IEO Syllabus- Students can begin with their preparation by knowing the topics coming in the exam. Almost 70% of questions are asked from the syllabus. So, it's important to go through the entire syllabus of IEO properly. 

  • Identify resources and study materials- Students are advised to be ready with the study materials beforehand. This way prevents them from wasting time in searching the relevant materials at the end moment (exam time). 

  • Look for online learning platforms- Subjects like English can be practised more efficiently on online learning platforms as they provide instant solutions with detailed explanations for students' convenience.  

5. What is the time duration given to complete the IEO exam?

Ans: Candidates of classes 3 to 12 are required to complete the IEO question paper between a minimum of 40 minutes to a maximum of 1 hour. Students can not submit their answer sheets before 40 minutes. Students should try to submit their OMR sheets with the majority of correct questions at the earliest after the completion of 40 minutes to receive an advantage of the third tie-breaker norm. Anyhow, if a student is unable to submit his answer sheet after just 40 minutes, he can use his extra 20 minutes to answer maximum questions correctly instead of hassling.
