The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur), which administers the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2021, has released the information brochure for the engineering entrance exam. Candidates should be aware that the application process will begin very soon. The exam date for JEE Advance has yet to be notified due to the Covid-19 crisis. It will be decided considering the crisis.

New Changes in Eligibility Criteria

For students, who passed the JEE Mains in 2020 but were unable to sit for both JEE Advanced tests last year due to Covid-related complications, would be able to register for the JEE Advanced 2021 exam immediately. However, this year's criteria have been adjusted in light of the fact that all school education boards across the country have cancelled Class 12 exams. According to the previous criteria (before COVID-19), candidates must have appeared and passed their Class 12 exams, and they must be among the top 2.5 lakh successful candidates in JEE Mains 2021, across all categories.

According to the brochure, “This is a one-time measure valid only for JEE-Adv 2021. These candidates will be considered in addition to and not as part of the total number of candidates who would qualify from JEE-Mains 2021 for appearing in JEE-Adv 2021.”

This year, another change was brought to the female quota seats across all IITs. Unlike the previous three years, when IITs allocated a standard quota of supernumerary seats to female candidates, this quota would vary from institute to institute in 2021-22. Individual IITs will choose the number of supernumerary seats in various disciplines, ensuring that each institute has at least 20% female enrolment in undergraduate programmes.
