What is NEET and How Does it Work?

NEET or the National Eligibility Entrance Test is a test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and is known to be the qualifying test required for MBBS as well as BDS programmes in medical and dental colleges in India. Generally, this examination is conducted in India during the month of May every year.

If an individual wants to enrol into a medical course, then they must have Physics, Biotechnology/Biology, and Chemistry as mandatory subjects in 10th and 12th grade and must pass these as well. The NEET-UG, i.e., the NEET undergraduate exam, does not count the marks of Mathematics. But the individual is supposed to show the passing certificate for the rest of the mentioned subjects during the round of counselling.

The NEET 2024 exam is for 3 hours and includes a total of 180 questions that are supposed to be answered by the candidates. The whole paper is divided into 3 main sections which include Physics, Chemistry, and Biology; Biology further includes both botany and zoology.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) releases the NEET cut-off for 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats whereas the deputed authorities of each state announced the NEET cut-off for 85% State Quota seats.

What is the Kerala NEET Merit List Tiebreaker Method?

The CEE will conduct an inter-state merit method to resolve cases where students ended up with identical marks in the Kerala NEET rank list. So if you find yourself in such a predicament, here is how it will get decided. The following order is listed down chronologically, as per the priority list.

Biology Score: The candidate with a higher score in the Kerala NEET merit list will be awarded the higher rank.

Chemistry Score: In case both candidates have attained similar marks in Biology, their marks in Chemistry decides who gets a better rank.

The Number of Errors: If there is a tie in both Biology and Chemistry scores, a third factor is used to break the tie. The candidate with the least number of incorrect answers is awarded a higher rank.

5. Does NEET allow students who have had a gap year between Class 11 and 12 to appear for the examination?
