Importance of Revision Notes

Revision notes for ICSE Class 9 Mathematics Chapter 4 are available on Vedantu’s official website. Students can check the website for easy notes. Substitution is one of the basic tools to work with expressions. Expansion is the equivalent of factorization.

Example of Expansion

Let us see an example of expansion:

Question: Expand 3*(5+2)

Answer

3*(5+2)

= 3*5+3*2

Thus, this is expanded.

Now, we complete the calculation.

3*(5+2)

= 3*5+3*2

= 15+6

= 21

Example of Substitution

1. Solve for ‘x’ and ‘y’:

        x + y = 5.

       3x + y = 11.

Solution

        x + y = 5 …………… (i)

       3x + y = 11 …………… (ii)

From 1st eq. we find that y = 5 - x.

Substituting value of y in eq. (ii), we get;

   3x + 5 - x = 11.

⟹ 2x = 11 - 5

⟹ 2x = 6

⟹ x = 6/2

⟹ x = 3.

Substituting x = 3 in y = 5 – x, we get;

y = 5- x

⟹ y = 5 - 3

⟹ y = 2.

Hence, x = 3 and y = 2.

Students find it hard to solve equations related to expansion using substitutions. Vedantu’s experts have prepared a very easy way to solve these equations. The number of times you practice, the more you become sharp. When you know what to write, no exams can bring your confidence down. Revision is the best way to release your stress and build confidence. The more you know, the more intelligent you become.

Yes. Practice is also considered revision. The more you practice the more you learn. Students might find formulas hard, but practising them every day makes it easy for students to grasp quickly. Maths is a completely different subject compared to any other subject. Once we start grasping, it becomes more fun to solve more equations. Some students find Mathematics as a very tough subject and there are students who consider it as their best one. It’s all about how you understand. Once you learn the equation, you will want to practice more.
