ICSE Class 10 Second Language-Indian Language Syllabus for Semester (1 & 2) 2024-25 - PDF Download
India is a vast country with so many cultures and so many different languages and dialects of these languages spoken throughout the country. Taking this into account, the ICSE education board in India has crafted an Indian Languages syllabus with a choice to be made by students out of multiple languages. This includes a choice to study several Indian languages from throughout the subcontinent.
Vedantu has provided the syllabus of Indian Languages class 10, which includes the languages - Urdu, Assamese, Bengali. Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Khasi, Lepcha, Marathi, Malayalam, Mizo, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Tangkhul, Telugu.
ICSE Class 10 Indian Languages Semester-wise Syllabus 2024-25
The syllabus of Indian Languages Class 10 is vast, as it includes the various sections of the paper for all of the language choices collectively. However, there is a set pattern for each language within the Class 10th Indian Languages Syllabus, which is as follows.
Each paper has a Language section to test the linguistic knowledge that students will have gained upon the completion of this subject. The components of the language section in the Indian Languages papers are listed as below:
Composition: This is a writing task, in the form of a dialogue or a narrative description or explanation, in the language paper which will test the student’s ability to write a paragraph or a few paragraphs in the language of their choice.
Letter: Letter-writing is an important piece of composition that we must learn in every language.
Comprehension: An unseen passage will be provided to students and they must answer questions on the basis of this; this tests the understanding capability of the student in that language.
Grammar: This is possibly the most important component, as it tests the level to which the student has been able to pick up grammar in the form of sentence structure, vocabulary etc.
The second part of the Class 10 ICSE Indian Languages Syllabus is the Prescribed Texts section, where students must answer questions on the basis of literary texts in the chosen language, such as poetry and prose, which will have been studied by the students in their respective classes. This section generally comes from a textbook or two textbooks prescribed by the board for students to study in classes.
The final part of the syllabus of Indian Languages class 10 is the Internal Assessment, which will be based both in the language components as well as literature. It consists of 2 assignments to be completed by the end of the school year - one from the literature component and the other from language. This usually consists of a listening and responding task, and a creative writing task, respectively.
