Chapter 3: Metals and Non-Metals

In this chapter, students will learn about the physical properties of metals and non-metals, chemical properties of metals, how metals react with air, water, acid, other solutions and metal salts, reactivity series.

Further, students will come to know how metals and non-metals react, properties of ionic compounds, the occurrence of metals, extraction of metals, refining of metals, corrosion, prevention of corrosion. The chapter contains questions and answer exercises along with multiple-choice questions.

Chapter 4: Carbon And its Compounds

In this chapter, students will learn about bonding in carbon – the covalent bond, versatile nature of Carbon, saturated and unsaturated carbon compounds, chemical properties of carbon compounds, soaps and detergents.

Chapter 5: Periodic Classification of Elements

In this chapter, students will come to know about early attempts at the classification of elements, Newlands Law Of Octaves, Mendeleev’s Periodic Table, the modern periodic table, metallic and non-metallic properties. In the end, students are supposed to attempt question and answer exercises, multiple-choice questions and group activities.

Chapter 6: Life Processes

In this chapter, students will learn about what is meant by life processes, nutrition, and its forms, human respiration, transportation, an excretory system of human beings and plants. 

Chapter 7: Control and Coordination

In this chapter, students will learn about the nervous system of animals, reflex actions, the human brain, how tissues are protected and how nervous tissues cause action, coordination in plants, hormones in animals, etc. 

Chapter 8: How do Organisms Reproduce

In this chapter, students will learn about the modes of reproduction in single organisms and sexual reproduction in plants and human beings. 

Chapter 9: Heredity And Evolution

In this chapter, students will learn about the accumulation of variation during reproduction, heredity, inherited traits, rules of inheritance of traits, how these traits are expressed, sex determination and evolution, speciation, tracing evolutionary relationships, fossils, evolution by stages, human evolution.

Chapter 10: Reflection and Refraction

In this chapter, students will learn about the reflection of light, spherical mirrors, image formation by spherical mirrors, mirror formula and magnification, refraction of light, refractive index, refraction by spherical lenses, lens formula, and magnification. 

Chapter 11: The Human Eye and The Colorful World 

In this chapter, students will learn about the working of the human eye, its power of accommodation, defects of vision and their correction, refraction of light through a prism, dispersion of white light by a prism, atmospheric refraction, scattering of light.

Chapter 12: Electricity

In this chapter, students will learn about electric current and circuit, electric potential and potential difference, circuit diagram, ohm's law, factors that determine the resistance of a conductor, resistance of a system of resistors, heating effect of electric current and electric power.

Chapter 13: Magnetic Effects Of Electric Current

In this chapter, students will learn about the magnetic field and field lines, magnetic field due to a current-carrying conductor, right-hand thumb rule, the force on a current-carrying conductor in a magnetic field, electric motor, electromagnetic induction, electric generator, and domestic electric circuits.    

Chapter 14: Sources Of Energy

In this chapter, students will learn about the good sources of energy, conventional sources of energy, alternative and non-conventional sources of energy and environmental consequences of using different forms of energy as well as how long an energy source will last. 

Chapter 15: Our Environment

In this chapter, the student will learn about the Ecosystem and its components, food chains and webs and how human activities affect the environment.

Chapter 16: Sustainable Management of Natural Resources

In this chapter, students will learn about the five Rs of saving the environment, the need for managing natural resources, the importance of forest and wildlife, proper utilization and management of water resources, and water harvesting.
