The Cave of Fear Story Summary in English

The story begins with a town whose residents are apparently haunted by the cave of fear, a cave which is completely dark and devoid of light, giving out a very sinister aura. Anybody who dares to venture into the cave never returns. The townspeople who sit by and watch the brave ones go in always hear a blood-curdling scream of fear, followed by numerous, deep roars of laughter that send chills down their spine. Fearing for their lives, the townspeople would place gifts, rewards, jewellry, clothes and food at the mouth of the cave on a regular basis in order to calm the monster, and these items almost always disappeared, feeding the rumours and claims of the townspeople’s stories of a monster inside the cave while also fuelling their fear towards the unknown creature.

One fine day, a lone traveller who arrived to pass by the town came to know of this mysterious monster terrorising the people of the town and took it upon himself to end this misery once and for all. He decided to go confront the monster and request him to end the sufferings of the people. When he asked if there were any people who were willing to accompany him, nobody volunteered to join him on his journey to the mouth of the cave as they were shaking in immense fright.

Once he reached, he gathered all the courage he could muster and stepped inside the darkness of the cave. He lit a torch and tried calling out to the monster in the hopes of negotiating with him. Initially, he could hear random peals of laughter from the monster and tried to follow the noise before it suddenly went deadly silent and he was left on his own, again. He soon approached a wide cavern.

Just as he was about to enter, he felt somebody - or something - push him hard against his back, causing him to fall through a hole in the rock after letting out a loud, pained yell. Just as he thought he was about to die, his fall was stopped by a soft landing and he was surrounded by people who seemed to be…partying? At first he couldn’t believe his eyes and people started to explain that all of these partygoers are the townspeople who never returned to town and are staying here out of their own accord.

Apparently this idea had come from the town’s ex-mayor as he had big dreams and wishes to accomplish great things later in life. When the townspeople refused to cooperate, he made up the imaginary story of a scary monster inhabiting the insides of a cave, displaying how fear will hold people back tremendously. Hence, the traveller stayed behind enjoying the party and having a jolly good time. The townspeople? Lets just say that they are still frightened by the cave of fear.

In this story, the traveller was brave enough to go inside the cave as he believed that it might not be that scary and he was right as he was met with a bunch of people who were having fun and that's why the sound of laughter can be heard by the townspeople.
