Hint: Biogas is the mixture of gases which are produced by the breakdown of organic matter or agricultural waste in absence of oxygen.Such an environment is called anaerobic environment.
Complete step by step answer:
Biogas is a very good substitute for fossil fuel. It is a man made gas and consists mainly of methane gas all of its components and their percentage is given below
Methane
Carbon dioxide
Nitrogen
Hydrogen
Hydrogen sulphide
Oxygen
Additional information: Bio gas is manmade pre fossil fuel which is made by a series of processes. It is similar to natural gas and is also better for the environment than other fuels such as petrol, diesel etc. Since it is man made one can regenerate it.
Process of making of biogas- In biogas reactors, organic waste, dead plants, other agricultural waste are collected and dome is covered so as to stop the oxygen supply from the atmosphere because all these steps occur in the absence of oxygen. Microbes and bacteria feed themselves on the organic matter collected in the dome and in absence of oxygen they degrade the waste causing anaerobic digestion and form the gases like methane, carbon dioxide which are collected in the tanks for use. Another perk of that is that after the complete degradation, gas collected and remaining waste turns into very useful organic fertilizer which is helpful in agricultural activities.
Biogas collected contains methane as its major part which can be combusted in the presence of oxygen hence it can be used to generate heat and cooking food. It is also used in gas engines to convert gas energy into electrical energy.
Anaerobic decomposition is the process in which microbes and bacteria break down the biodegradable organic waste in the absence of oxygen.
Note: As we know biogas is a natural gas used as a source of energy so it’s main component will be a natural fuel. Biogas is an eco-friendly and renewable source of energy. It’s generation reduces soil and water pollution and produces organic fertilizer.
