Ethers can be classified into two categories, when the groups are the same on both sides of ether they are known as symmetrical ether. And when the groups are different on both sides of the ether is called unsymmetrical ether or mixed ether.

Examples of symmetrical ether are CH3OCH3, and the example of unsymmetrical ether is
