Hint: Transportation in India consists of transport by land, water and air. The public transport of India is the most heavily used in the world.

Complete Step by Step answer: India's road network is the second-largest in the world whereas India's rail network is the fourth largest in the world. Aviation in India is divided into military and civil aviation. It is growing at a rapid rate. The waterway network in India is the ninth-largest transportation network in the world.

Roadways and railways are the most widely used means of the transport system in India. India has a network of National Highways which connects all the major cities, states and capitals. It is on the verge of becoming the economic backbone of the country.
The advantages of the roads transport system are:
a.It plays a vital role in the transportation of goods and passengers for short and medium distance and locations.
b.It has linked the producer and the consumer strongly and better. They can effortlessly keep contact between their farms, factories and markets.
c.It is comparatively a cheaper mode of transportation.
The Indian roadways is classified into 3 major sections depending on their connectivity such as;
-National Highways
-State Highways
 -District Roads
The railway services in India, are under the management of the Ministry of Railways. It is run by the State. It is divided into 18 zones which include the Kolkata Metro Railways. It owns both locomotive and coach production facilities and operates both long-distance and suburban rail systems.
The advantages of the Indian Railways are:
a.Railways have opened up various employment opportunities for people. Many skilled and unskilled people work under the Indian Railways.
b.It has encouraged Tourism to some extent. The connectivity to different tourist spots has encouraged people to travel.
c.In the time of natural calamities, railways prove to be a lifeline as it helps in reaching out to people.
d.It has commercial agriculture someway or the other.
e.They are useful for the internal security of the country as it helps in carrying defence material to various locations safely.
